That's the wrong attitude to take - we would have won a penalty shootout.
Qatar 🇶🇦 World 🌍 Cup 2022
I was thinking of starting a QF accumulator challenge thread, but when I saw the quarter-finalists, I thought it would just be a case of which outsider you pick against Argentina/Brazil/France/Portugal. Never thought two of them would get through.
As a neutral I thought England look slightly better than France, but it's the goals that matter. However I did think it was a foul on an England player that left them exposed at the back and lead to the first goal from France.
tbh I wanted both the England match and the Portugal match to go into extra time, both games thoroughly entertaining

Been arguing with quite a few people this morning as I said Kane shouldn't have taken the second penalty.
Can you imagine the pressure on him at that point? Put yourself if both Kane's head and Lloris, Lloris had nothing to lose at that point, Kane everything.
WC quarter finals, against his team mate, having scored the first, to put England almost through and go top of the England scorers list.
Everything really hinged on that exact moment and the expectations were too high.
Lloris would have felt he could force a mistake and Kane would be in a different world uncertain of what to do.

And if Kane had scored he would become Englands top scorer ahead of Rooney. Perhaps that was a psychological factor too.
But he was never going to delegate responsibility, thats his nature.
It's very disappointing but they now know for sure they can give any team problems.
Hope they realise they deserved more from the game and also that it doesn't rattle Kane's confidence.

The pressure would be massive for every player, I don't think the pressure is any different to taking one in a shootout. And what we know of Kane is that he's someone who has dealt well with pressure over his career.Euler wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 10:10 amBeen arguing with quite a few people this morning as I said Kane shouldn't have taken the second penalty.

Do you think Kane should have taken the first penalty? Is there a certain minute that the game passes and you think someone else should have taken it because the pressure builds?
Kane is a decent penalty taker, as the pressure builds I would rate his ability to hold up psychologically would fair better than most in the team. The fact that he had already taken and converted a great penalty under pressure would only increase the chances of scoring a 2nd imo (Lloris also went the wrong way which indicates he didn't have a read of Kane). Taking everything into account I would rate his probability of scoring that 2nd pretty much as good as anyone on the pitch
Surely you would feel more comfortable backing a player who has taken and scored a penalty already in a game than someone coming in fresh? A fallacy to suggest otherwise imo
Kane has three 3 pens.
Keepers right usually hard.
Down the middle.
Keepers left not as hard sometimes gets side netting with right foot curl.
He was never gonna go down the middle as its asking for trouble in such a game.
So he has two options.
imo he went go to first up as a rightfooter. He tried to repeat the trick. He was brave. No penalty goalscoring midfielders like Gerrard and Lampard to share duties. He blasted it and lost his technique a bit. Sport eh?
