Ive just signed up for the Sporting Servers VPS and logged into betfair via that platform.

A few minutes later I got an email from Betfair informing me that my account had been accessed in Ireland giving the time I would have been logging in on the VPS.

I assume this is perfectly safe but am I going to get these alerts from Betfair every time I use the VPS?

Cheers.

Security feature at Betfair. If you suddenly appear to log in from another country then you automatically get sent an email.

So you will be fine. We have the servers in Ireland so are as near as possible to the exchanges.

Thanks for the reply.

Are you still planning to post a video about using a VPS for beginners?

Yes, with a few hints and tips on additional configurations.

Indeed that's right. That's one of the reasons why betangel is much popular with newbies!

Hi
Is anyone currently using sporting servers.
i requested a price a while back ,and got a reply from betangel support that they are not getting the speed they want ,or something like that.
i liked the idea that the server is in ireland ,im in ireland ,and so is paddy power and betfair.so was keen on using this one,
is it currently working ? will it be soon ?if not -anyone know of any others based in ireland close to betfair ?
thanks in advance ,
Marc

Betfair added another loop in the routing to a DDOS prevention service, so being based in Ireland is less of an advantage than it used to be. You may get just as good a ping from the UK now than from Ireland.

Bit of a coincidence, but I was checking this out last night too..
The time has increased about 5ms..average time circa now 19ms
I then used the trace function and used whoisisXY to trace the IP address and route through a company in the US that stops DDOS attacks.
I guess that no one will be able to bypass this, so in effect niether an advance nor disadvantage

I have been using tagadab since I started but I have now moved over to Linux so been testing on AWS as that is where my databases are hosted, does anyone else use them? The servers are based in Ireland but there are plans for a UK data centre at the end of the year. There is also a Sydney data centre so you can easily spool up an ec2 instance when aus events are running.

Running some 'real life' latency tests tagadab is quicker but not by much however aws offers lots of stuff for a free and you can monitor cpu/memory usage on the app. I also currently have a t2.micro instance running betangel on windows server 2012 all for free (12 months).

May be I misunderstood - are you using Linux vps to run BetAngel? I thought it is not possible

AWS Ireland to Betfair, not very consistent but on average looks as though it is quicker.

Sorry, all my programs are written in python but I use betangel for one strategy and I like to watch markets sometimes, hence the micro instance.

Yes, I use them too. There was lower latency before Betfair introduced the DOS prevention layer, but not much you can do about that.

I just find AWS really convenient for server management. Like you say, it's very easy just to clone a server then start it up in Aus.

Hello,
is there anyone using the sportingservers vps service? Is there actually an advantage over any other vps-service based in Ireland/UK? What kind of ping times are to be expected using the service. I was recently trialling tagadab and had 15-30ms response times. Is the sporting servers vps better? Just wanted to know, before I subscribe as they don`t offer a free trial or money back guarantee (at least I couldn`t find it on their webpage).

thanks
