Have a google on Spritz, it's a speed reading technology. Having been time challenged for a few years this technology has helped me digest written material once more and at a fair old rate.

Great idea to modernise reading!

I can highly recommend it as well. I firest started using it about a year ago after it featured on BBC Click.

Here is an article about it on the BBC from back then:

I have a tendency to lose concentration - that system doesn't look good for someone like me, I'd be missing too many chunks of information

I managed to read the entire Berkshire Hathaway letter last night using it, marvellous!

A general question. Do you say "out loud" every word in your head when you read. I do. I even do accents for characters when they speak. I've never asked but assume others do that too. Apparently that is not good for speed reading, where people let words "wash" over them.

In trying the test I could still say each word at 700 wpm. So could be good. Thanks for sharing.

The words just rattle through me generally and I'm getting less likely to say them in my head now. I think it's a neat concept, it's about time somebody re-invented betting, I mean reading.

I thought it was a cool idea too..
In my job, we tend to do a lot of online training these days, (classroom based courses are not too frequent these days!)..

They give us guidelines as to how long the courses should last (say 30 hours). Most people just speed read the data and sit the obligatory tests..almost everyone can complete these in a fraction of the time (leaving free time to trade etc!)

Its remarkable how much info you can take in and I would imagine that the full time pre race guys use this cognitive skill each and every day..

Ita long a similar line with the following, whereby you dont have to read the full word to know what it is..

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

Wow, that is interesting - you're dead right, I read that very easily without any hesitation whatsoever

I'd be interested to hear what people feel the retention rate is when using Spritz.

I personally don't find I retain the information as well as when I read things myself in the normal method.

Another useful range of apps and add on's for browsers are the various Speaking apps that let you block a section of text etc and have it read it back to you. For example Speak It! add on for Google Chrome.

Out of the two sorts I prefer the speaking apps and find I retain the information much better.

Absolutely love this...thanks for posting!

But....noticed they haven't been integrated into Kindle yet.

Do you know the company behind this Peter? Just thinking if it's an investment opportunity. Could really see it taking off.

Thanks

Here is a link to info about the company:

Interesting view here that even at 600 wpm it was not possible to take in more than 75% of what is read:

I've found for reading general text I can read about 700, but if it's technical I need to slow down to take the information in.
