I don't know about other traders but I have almost given up scalping the pre race markets. They have become either too volatile or it takes ages to get money matched, by which time the market can move against you. It seems much easier to sit back and wait for a developing swing trade. I.e trading fewer markets and waiting for the right move. This of course needs a high level of patience as you are doing nothing for a lot of the time. Other traders opinions welcome!

Putting directional bias into your trades is now more important than ever it seems.

Cheltenham for example. In days gone by the traded ranges were often two or three ticks and the market remained rock steady. Now even here the traded rages seem to be getting longer and longer. I look for stable markets day in day out but there seem to be fewer and fewer that I can scalp with any great degree of confidence. It's a pity really because scalping these stable markets was quite easy and I find getting directional trades right a bit more difficult.

This is why I recommended Betdaq during Cheltenham, you could still scalp that will ease. Betfair was a whole different ball game on the scalping front.

I ran a test during Cheltenham to see the difference. I'll see if I can post up some comparables for you.
