Hi,
First time user of BA and struggling to find a way to do what I want so hoping I can get some fast track help.
I want to be able to select a particular horse, only back it if it is favourite and odds on offer are <3 at 1 min before the off. If condition met, take Betfair SP.
Simple request I thought but I cannot seem to get the combination above via the Automation options. Am I missing something ?

I had a quick look at this and devised a rule. I can't test it at the moment so that will be down to you. Try practice mode and test it thoroughly before you go live. You may need to make a few adjustments. I'm not feeling great this morning so I may have missed something - if I have I am sure someone will spot it!
How it works;
The market order is fixed and the selection is sorted by Position using Number 1 in favouritism.
If the price is < 3.00 1 minute before the start it will place a back bet (set at £10) 20 ticks above the best market price The idea is the bet will not be matched....unless it drifts violently....in which case you can change it to 30 ticks etc.
The next part monitors for unmatched bets and then adjusts them to "Take SP"
It should work but test it and adjust as mentioned.

Under the automation rules editor I can setup everything else you have suggested under the General and Parameters tabs but I cannot locate the option for doing above.
If I could ask for some extra guidance please that would be appreciated.

Did you download the rules file I created? Save it to a known place then import it via Guardian.

I am having trouble getting this rule to work and would appreciate some further help.
I have modified the attached rule so it "Applies to selection by name" rather than "Applies to selection by position (sorted in order of favouritism)". Is should only place the bet if the "Conditions" of "Nominated in position 1 (sorted in order of favouritism)" and "Back price is less than 3" were both not met but this does not seem to occur.
I have watched the log and one of the rules "Fixed market order" which fires at 1:05 before start time does not show in log.......should it ?
It then cannot match the bet because of the 20 ticks above best in market and moves to a status of unmatched.....all good.
5s before the jump it moves to Take SP because it is an unmatched bet.
I only want it to become unmatched if it is also favourite and <3 but those conditions seem to be ignored. The log shows:
02/06/2015 21:38:01: $ 100.00 Back bet placed on 5. Poised To Pounce at 5.2. Entirely unmatched when it initially reached the market. Ref: 10001
02/06/2015 21:38:54: Modify bet persistence 10001 from 'Cancel' to 'Take SP'
Also, I would expect to see the bet show in the Trade Profit and P&L once the race starts given the SP was taken but you see nothing when operating in practice mode, so bottom line I cannot determine if bet is actually taken or not.
