As alot of you know my daughter plays football in other countries but mostly for the northern ireland (w) senior team.
for the last couple of months she has been playing in iceland for Grindavik (W) so naturally ive been keeping an eye on how the team is doing etc,and having a bet etc.
this morning i was looking at the markets for her game tonight and i see that GRINDAVIK -1 was prices at 9.5 on the sportsbook, so i said to myself ,(self have a bit of that ,looks good)
so i bet 50 quid at 9,5..then i thought this is a steal so i had another bit and bet an additional 60 at 9.5.
all is well .went about my day ,
comes match time ,i have another bet on the match odds on the exchange, and i bet on exchange over 2.5 also.all is well so far.
now fast forward to 68 mins in the game ,and grindavik are 2-0 up happy days i have over a grand coming from the sportsbook ,couldent be better,
i look 3 mins later at the bottom right hand corner of betangel and see the balance increase by 110 quid,so i say to myself .,self,,where did that come from, happy days,i check the statement and see that betfair assholes motherfuckers have cancelled my sportsbook bets ,and returned the money ,it says on my statement VOID BET.
so i call the motherfucker assholes on my phone, and some asswipe tells me that the market was priced wrong ,that it was priced with grendivak at home and not away,so in the rules and regulations they can cancell at any time,i point out that i placed the bets at 10.15am,,,,its now 8.15 pm and my bet has won,(game just gone 3-0 grendivik) i ask why they waited all day ,and just cancell 68 mins into the game when my bet is a winner,
he replies rules and regulations bla,,bla,,bla,.we all know the rest of the story,
so i tells him that betfair are a f$%King joke and make the rules up as they go along,he says if betfair did horrible things like that they would be in court and people would be complaining and writing on the internet, none of that ever happens so betfair are a great company,(you couldent make this shit up)
it was then that i totally lost my shit and fucked him out of it.the rest is history.
so that was my day with betfair ,how was yours lads ?
Marc
PS my daughter scored 2 goals and i assist,
betfair taking the piss
Well done!convoysur-2 wrote:PS my daughter scored 2 goals and i assist,
Why on earth Betfair run a sportsbook with all it's many flaws when the exchange was the perfect forward thinking future of the betting industry is completely beyond me. It won't do their brand any good over the long term.
Hate hearing stories like this specially when its someone like yourself, if there going down the palpable error route i think you have every reason to question why it was done so long after it was placed and so late into the game only after the 2nd goal and take it further.
The only downside is any implications it may have for your exchange account
But well done for your daughter again try not to let BF's actions take to much of the shine off her's and the teams performance

This sort of thing pisses me off too.
If some pimply faced little intern makes an error, they should be big enough to cop it on the chin.
In a past life, I used to work in hospiatlity. Smash a full stubby, write it off. Keep smashing full stubbies, lose your job. That sort of wastage was written into the business model...
I can almost feel, that if the scoreline at that point of the game was the opposite, you wouldn't be getting diddly squat.
Bastardos.....

That flipping stinks
The reason why these 'palpable errors' are an absolute con, is because if your bet was a loser, they would never have returned your money
Clearly, there's a lack of interest in Icelandic W matches. Your bet would have decimated their bottom line, so they waited until the bet looked like winning before shafting you
The problem is Marc, they have you by the short & curlies, because if you complain too heavily within social media they will close your account
btw, good stuff with LB goals......if I was 20 years younger, I'd probably sneakily ask you about her availability

Hey there, first off, congratulations to your daughter for nearly getting the hat trick
. Next, commiserations for getting 'done' by Betfair!
If you were a complete newbie coming into this game and had a trick like that pulled across you, I reckon you could rightfully call 'Foul!' and say the betting industry in general and our heroes at Betfair in particular are bent! And I don't think you'd be far wrong.
I agree 100% with others on here that had it gone the other way, then you'd have kissed your stake goodbye.
I wonder why we put up with it like we do (only REAL show in town?).
I've emailed Betfair on numerous occassions regarding their 'live' video feeds - with no positive result. It strikes me that contacting them at all over anything is a complete waste of time and energy.
Oh well, I suppose we just have to take it on the chin UNTIL another, less greedy player enters the arena and we can switch to them........
Better luck next time.

That's a sickener, hope it didn't take the shine off your daughter's goals for you.
Like others have pointed out on illiquid matches like that your bets must have cleaned them out. Could be worth considering IBAS though as it'd be hard for them to argue it was palpable especially if they'd priced up Grindavik assuming they were playing at home which would surely be shorter odds than if they'd priced up assuming they were the away team. I know from personal experience, not with the sportsbook though, that the higher you go up the ladder the more leaway the staff have and sometimes common sense prevails with them paying out as a discretionary payment. The call centre staff are basically robots reading a script and useless without access to override decisions so it'd be worth at least taking it bit further.

the truth of the matter here is that you were offered a bet that was advertised by the SB in a particular way. You honoured the contract and accepted the risk/reward based on the only information that you had (arguably). IF you can prove that the *trim* from the event wasn't changed until after your bet was cancelled, then I wonder where the legality of this all stands...
Oh and yes, well done on the 2 goals - shame about BF's own goal!

BHS gets the chop this week! Next week Betfair?????
Don't piss off the customers with silly tricks.
BHS
Littlewoods
Woolworths
Whateveryone
Austin Reed
Brit Leyland (YouTube has a brilliant video of a young Mr Clarkson interviewing the victims/culprits
Needed a funny bit on the end.
I wonder who is in charge of the BF pension fund? Is it gonna be declared void? IF BF employees are reading this I suggest a change of underwear.
You don't have to swear, just infer. It's our present in BF hands, it's their future in our hands
Suggest BF employees start looking to their own future.
Congrats to your daughter - ask her to buy you a pint she'll wanna celebrate!!!!

I think thats terrible what they have done. Very clear your bet was all there liability.
You should get there reasons in writing. If they gave you those reasons, I think they could be in a lot of trouble and I think there could be a lot of customers who have lost on a bet that should not of stand. Either way report them anonymously!
b*gger anonymity, put the record straight. these guys are not a higher power and certainly are not beyond reproach and examination. Collate facts, prepare a factual account and get a 3rd party to verify that it's not just *you*. You have a very strong legal AND moral case, as for obligation from betF*ck, don't hold your breath. PaddyPower have really levelled the playing field here and shown that they are no better than - well, I'll stop now, just remembered that we live in a world of duplicity and myriad double standards. PaddyPower and BF are the best!! Long live the king - hail ceasar!!SeaHorseRacing wrote: You should get there reasons in writing. It would be interesting to know if they did refund all losing bets on the same market i.e. did they only cancel the bets that went against them.
The problem is that by the sounds of it the odds were probably mispriced. I agree that it shouldn't be allowed, but there T&Cs are pretty water tight that they can void any bet if they want to.
Only hope is you get them enough bad publicity that they change their mind.
Ideally someone takes them to court at some point and gets a court to say that all accepted bets are legally binding contracts once the market goes into play. Feel free to set the prescedent.
