I was quite shocked this morning to discover that I'd received an email with this subject at about 1am, when I was sound asleep!

Does it mean that my account has been hacked, or it is just a phishing email?

I've since changed my password as a precautionary measure, and the email I received had the subject of 'You're account's been changed', so it may be the latter.

Jeff

PS Why can't Betfair do what Amazon do, and send you a verification code by email when you want to change your password? It's not rocket science!

The fact that you could get into you BF account with your existing password would suggest it has not been changed. As you have already done though it was probably a good idea to change it. I agree with you that BF should do something similar to Amazon, but BF probably think less of their customers than Amazon do.

If you have a yahoo, btinternet or talk21 email account this could be linked to that massive hacking that took place but I think its probably nothing to worry about. I think in your position I would contact BF and explain what has happened though. Not sure if they will be very helpful but you wont know without trying them.

Whenever I change my password, I get an email informing me that my password has been changed, not my account has been changed

Do you still log on to BF regularly Jeff?
Perhaps it's a ploy to get dormant accounts active again, or maybe your preferences have been altered (opting out of casino for example)

I'd recommend everyone turn on 2-step authentication anyway.

It means you need an extra (continually changing) code from your mobile before you can access your account. But as a convenience, once you log in once, you can authorise that specific browser not to need a code in future (until you clear its cookies).

You'll need to enter a code (appended to the end of your regular password) each time you log into BetAngel though.

No, although that will change soon.

The account in question was actually a new account that I'd opened a few days previously to test a strategy.

The email was probably sat on some server for a while before being sent.

However, when I woke up at 6 this morning and noticed the email on my phone, I had to faff about changing passwords and making sure there were no dodgy transactions rather than going back to sleep. Cheers Betfair!

How did you manage to open another account?

I thought Betfair only allow people one account nowadays. Presumably linked to email address and/or postal address. Have you got both a new email and postal address since your last account? And out of curiosity, why did you decide to try it on a new account anyway?

I wasn't aware of that rule - I'd thought that multiple accounts were common, and Betfair only objected if you were avoiding PC (and I'm a LONG way off that!).

My postal and email addresses are different to those on my main account, so that may be how I was able to do it.

I opened the new account as it would give me a p&l figure that related exclusively to a particular strategy, allowing me to assess its effectiveness.
