I have spoken to a couple of work colleagues who like a bet but they do not appear to want to try it out. I have explained Betfair and Bet Angel but the response is usually "oh it's too complicated". We talk about what we have done but I don't push it on them. My brother is aware that I trade (or at least try to) and will ask me how it is going but he would never partake.

If strangers ask then I'm just vague ('this and that', 'ducking and diving' etc) and move on, how I've earned a living has always been my business. If others are actually interested I might answer their questions but if they're not that interested, vague is good enough. Offering info about something someone doesn't care about is pretty dull.
I never try and convert people to BF, most regular people just bet for a bit of fun.
They're not too bothered about a pound here and there if it's going to be 'complicated'. As for odds, they like to know what they're going to get, and when you can logon to BF and see the same horse/team anywhere between evens and 3/1 when it's 15/8 at the bookies you can understand the confusion. These also aren't the sort of people who are likely to get banned from the bookies for winning and need an alternative.

I did a sports trading course recently and almost every candidate I chatted to had been gubbed at numerous bookies due to their match betting activities. I would imagine a lot of people signing up for Bet Angel and its competitors will have done some matched betting. Although its easy money, the harder you work at it the quicker you lose your accounts, so a possible alternative it to try and learn how to trade. Problem is, trading is a hell of a lot harder than match betting.
