Just had a thought...
Last Christmas is arguably the greatest Xmas song of all time. However if I remember rightly (wasn't born then but remember reading it) it never made number 1 because of Band Aid Feed the world. So my guess is Last Xmas will be number 1 this weekend.

What a year
Rick Parfitt
Greg Lake
Leonard Cohen
Bobby Vee
Dave Swarbrick
Lonnie Mack
Prince
Merle Haggard
Keith Emerson
Maurice White
Paul Kantner
Glenn Frey
David Bowie
...and many others
It's tragic and if there's anything positive to say it's "Life fast, die at a reasonable age in most cases." Can someone please go and wrap Buddy Guy, Neil Young, Willie Nelson etc etc etc in cotton wool.

George Michael's Last Christmas was Christmas Day! - a cruel twist of fate.
I think everyone should take 5 mins today to listen to the lyrics of 'Praying for Time'. It may have been written 26 years ago, but the lyrics could have been written about today. Needless to say, we'll be saying the same thing in another 26 years from now

Was Prince this year? Jeepers it seems like so long ago now. Maybe Jim, Jimmie, Janis and Kurt had it right with the 27 club! Young whippersnappers didn't have faithah faithah, faithah, baaaybah. Yep I just made you sing it in your head!

I actually very briefly met George Michael!
1991 I was at Heathrow with my girlfriend, when in the departure lounge when we spotted George Michael. I think he was flying to New York if I remember correctly. I'd had too much to drink, due to being a nervous flyer, but it also gave me the confidence to invade George's privacy when I recognised him! He was very quiet and very pleasant, even though he clearly didn't enjoy my presence!
He has always struck me as a very complex, private guy who struggled to deal with the dark side of being a global superstar

The trouble will all these celebs dying that you grew up, is that it with nudges you closer to your own mortality. One positive is that it focuses the mind.
I look into the next ten years and realise there are plenty that never made it. Makes you want to get off your arse and do a few more things, but also be less tolerant of idiots that have little to add to anybody's life.

You're all on a very depressing note this morning lads, sneak a little brandy into that coffee and cheer up a bit!

As I approach my 60th next March - and with such as George Michael leaving us at JUST 53 - how do you think I feel?! LOLEuler wrote:The trouble will all these celebs dying that you grew up, is that it with nudges you closer to your own mortality. One positive is that it focuses the mind.

I am leaning towards maybe he was secretly HIV positive...

Saw a similar rumour a few days ago linked to an interview he gave saying he hadn't had a HIV test in years because he was afraid of what the result might be.SeaHorseRacing wrote:I am leaning towards maybe he was secretly HIV positive...

Initial reports said heart failure was the cause but I assume that's a generic term for found dead in bed if there was no rope around the neck, pool of vomit, needle in arm, wrists cut, head blown off or other. Autopsy report could be waiting on results of toxicology or other tests to see was it a heart failure as a result of HIV/drug abuse/bad arteries before it's a final report. Probably necessary in advance, given his estimated wealth and any legal arguments over his will/lack of will.
On another sad note, this death will probably lead to a massive upsurge in George Michael tribute acts at your local when you're hoping for a quiet few pints
