Kempton to be bulldozed and turned into residential housing

Probably more need for housing than racecourses to be fair and plenty of nearby courses to take up the slack.
Not surprised.
It's like Enterprise Inns, who bought loads of pubs. They quickly found the pub's real worth was by closing it down and selling it to Tesco or a property developer
How much money would Kempton be worth in that location for housing? flipping shedloads!! - way more than it would ever be worth as a racetrack
This is what happened to the Greyhound industry - it saddens me to see Pompey dogs now a housing estate. It's the same in many other areas
How much do you think Cartmel would be worth? It's a beautiful part of the country, and they only host half a dozen meets a year. They'd make millions selling the land to a developer

Theres a book that lists all the race courses from pre world war two that closed for a number of reasons which closed after the war as many were used for world war 2.
Many Many racecourses. Even a few around in Hampshire too.
When i remember the book I post it up. Someone on here may even have it.

Let's be honest, it's only thanks to the Levy Board that many racecourses survive anyway
I reckon 90% of current tracks would be worth more money to the owners, if they just closed it and sold it to developers. There's huge amounts of land with many of these courses

Not all courses are worth money as development land. I'd be suprised if many had (or could get) planning permission.
The tried to bring back racing to Lincoln a few years ago, the grandstand is still there and is a listed building... but the residents complained that it would bring too many people into the area and might affect parking...oh ffs good grief! That's Lincolnshire for you, is there any wonder there's nothing here worth seeing.

That is the equivilent of the music business wanting to move bulldose an arena and dig up and move Elvis because he was born there.
