Yes you would. It's a good habit anyway to have a quick look and make sure everything is as you expect it to be.
If you're just dipping your toes at the moment, you'll learn just as much with a tick size of 5 or 10p than you will with a pound. Losses in the early stages are very likely (inevitable?) and there's no point in spending any more than necessary to make mistakes. Everyone has their own personal circumstances though so obvioulsy you are the best judge of risk/reward
