No profit possible with 1 tick difference because of commission?

A place to discuss anything.

I've been watching numerous videos on scalping and the profit showing doesn't appear to be allowing for betfairs 5% commission. From what I can work out it's not possible to profit when you back higher than the lay with only 1 tick difference. For example looking at the thread detailed here. http://www.betangel.com/forum/viewtopic ... 47&t=12967 it shows a green up profit of 0.71p when laying £50 at 3.45 and backing £49.29 at 3.5. From my calculations when taking into account betfairs commission this would result in a loss of £1.09. If I'm getting this wrong can somebody please explain? Thanks

You pay 5% commission on your winnings (not the stake used) so on the trade you linked to commission paid would be 3p (5% of 0.71p) so you would receive 0.68p

Betfair charge their commision on your profit on the market - if your profit is 71p then they charge their commision on that regardless of what combination of bets it took to make it.

Thanks for the replies. I'm new to this and am used to arb betting with bookmaker accounts. I guess the difference here is the hedging and spreading equal profit over all horses with the software. I've booked myself onto one of Peter's seminars next week so hopefully all will become clearer. Really looking forward to it.
