so, I talked to chat support on betfair yesterday about changing the currency on my account and this guy offered me to close my current account and create a new one with different currency and initiate a cashout for me. I said I'd cashout myself (which I did) and when I went to chat support today and asked about currency change, they tell me it's only possible if I have changed address. wtf?
unfortunately, I don't have a screenshot of yesterday's chat, I never thought it would be important. but what's going on here, was that guy trying to pull some kind of a scam or something?

I thought your existing account followed you even with an address change ?
Sounds like the person's you been chatting too on both occasions don't really know what they doing.

Should have gone with the first guy
I don't think they can change currency on the account once it's opened, who knows why maybe to do with location, governing bodies etc In the old days they just used to let you open as many accounts as you wanted and you choose the currency when opening the account. All deposits have to be made in that currency also with a different card method. These days I know they only want people to have one account so it makes sense he'd want to close your old one , can't imagiine they transfer any points, hostory etc across though.
If you have a twitter account contact them via that as they're usually more clued up than the phone teams or online chat.
