I don't often post on the forum, but I read many of the threads with great interest, and some puzzlement it has to be said as many of them have indepth theories, which quite frankly, are far beyond my capacity. :D

But something happened the other day which I felt would never happen. I actually broke even on Betfair!!!! Yes, if I cashed all my money in now I would be in profit. And it only took 4 years!!!! Yes that's right 4 years. Hardly anytime at all I think you will agree.....

I have football to thank for all this, and Sky Sports, but yes at long last I have actually hit black not red.

Sorry if this post doesn't contain any great theory about the unders/overs and Asian handicap system, but I had to tell someone. Having thought just then though, this might give many the incentive to keep going and find something that works for them, and also might make the newbies think about what they are embarking on. It ain't easy but its been fun (I think)

Well done Steve!

Important question - what system were you using during the losing years and were you using Bet Angel all that time?

Well done Steve! :)

I remember when I did the same thing after months of trading I finally broke even on my BF account then after a little while longer I realised that I had paid for my BA course and all the other subscriptions and dodgy e-books I had paid out for. You are now on the road to making profits from this trading game and long may it continue. It's hard to get over that initial loss of bank and some hard lessons are learnt along the way, but it becomes worthwhile in the end if you stick to it.

Lakrasia - I've made every single trading mistake you can mention - gone in running (fatal) - trading when not watching the sport (fatal) - traded horse racing (what's going on there?) - chased losses (need I go on).

But as SpikeyBob say's you have to learn from your mistakes, and if you can't then pack this trading game in.

I've been close to breaking even a few times but never quite made it. Then I've made a fundamental mistake - see above - and down I'd go again.

Now I watch the football, like a hawk, and take advantage of odds gaps and odds movements. I'm not too keen on rigid systems as I've never found one that works long term - unless you do a massive amount of background work.

Yeah, now I take what the market gives me and its a little at a time. Started moving my liabilties up now and doing ok.

Wow, it sounds like you had a tough journey. I really hope it doesn't take me 4 years to pick this up.

I started about a week ago so I'm just messing around with small stakes while I learn. I hover between being slightly in the red or slightly in the black.

Hey,

Well done and congrats; I can understand where you have been and from other posts it seems a common thread.

There is no easy way and no sudden epiphany brought by some never ending email promising wealth and cheap viagra (or was that some other email  )

Learning from mistakes and accepting what you have done is wrong is one of the most difficult things to do but it is essential in the long run.

It is so, so easy to blame the market, the type of race, the team the info or the lay advice. In the end there is only one person who clicked the mouse.

I'm still covered in red and will be for ages to come, but I think I'm making a bit of progress.

My inspiration is from those who have made it from those who can make 100's a day to those who an make 50p a race; but on 90% of the races and with minimal losses. As it surely follows that if you can gain consistency then that will build confidence in ability etc..... and hopefully the winnings will increase.

My other point would be to new starters is to keep at it; read the blogs, read the posts new and the old ones ask questions and try not be disheartened if things don't work out at first. How many times did you fall over before you could walk?

At the moment I was happy to cover my BA sub this year from the heads up from Jolly Green on the Gold Cup, cheating I know as it was not trading just a straight Win or bust but green is green. As for the trading I'll keep going, funnily enough I've been doing better on the football as well.

The problem then comes to going back to the horses it is as if you have to get your "eye" in again when you have been away from it for a while weired.

Anyway Well done in clearing the red though.
