I need/want up to 200 markets in my guardian. Since every market updates one at a time, I need to lower the market refresh interval in guardian. Is 500ms too much perhaps? I don't want to pay charges to betfair because of this.

There are no charges for the number of markets you watch, so you can refresh several hundred at 20ms if you wanted to
