There are some costly purchases running in this race and the current favourite Battle of Britain is a full brother to Lawman who won the Prix Du Jockey Club (French Derby). You can get all of that information from the Racing Post so it is not a revelation. However, it will be interesting to see how he performs today against what appear to be speedier types. This horse is bred for middle distances although there are some speed influences in his pedigree.

I've mentioned before that as 2 year olds they are not expected to be running middle distances so they start in sprints for most of the time. Of course some of the real superstars are kept back to later races but today we see Godolphin handing this horse his debut.

Because a horse is bred for middle distance it doesn't mean it can't win a sprint. You'll remember I mentioned running sprinters over longer distances; one of them has to win!

I am interested in this race because there are two other newcomers in the line up that are bred for speed! Horses bred this way tend to be precocious and so it is worth keeping an eye on them. Tamareen is one such horse who looks a possibility on breeding being by Bahamian Bounty with heavy sprint influences on both the Sire and Dam side. This horse could take a hand today and I will be keen to see the horse in the preliminaries.

Tokum is another speedy type even more so than Tamareen and he is another one who may push the favourite.

You may wonder why I would bother with this because I have no intention of backing these horse. Well quite simply it means that the favourite may well drift in the market if there is support for either of these two. If word gets out that either of them is forward and working well then a double whammy will happen in the market. The support for either of these two could mean the layers getting stuck into the favourite and then we can grab that trend.

If there are no real positive vibes for these two then punters will probably get stuck into the favourite. They have seen the others and they don't look up to much except perhaps for Mayhab who was fancied in the Brocklesby so he may have improvement in him.

Punters are fickle and they want the "good thing" if possible. If there is support for any of these three then they may not drive in the price of the favourite and the layers may get the upper hand.

I will be very interested to see how this market shapes up.

It would appear that other people share my doubts and the favourite has drifted badly all morning. I have also noticed that a lot of money appears to try and hold the price aroind 2.90. A friend called me and also threw Bajan Bullet into the mix saying there is a bit of confidence behind him today. I won't get involved in this apart from my trading but it will interesting to see what happens to the price. If they do start to back the others I wonder if there will be more money thrown in at around 2.90 to hold the price? Look at the £33K sat at 2.92!!
