We all know that bookmakers dont like bettors who win consistently. It seems these days you dont even need to be a winning customer, you just need to be betting in a manner that they dont like.

Does anyone know, or have experience of being limited or closed on the Betfair Sportsbook, and would that affect ones ability to trade on the Exchange ?

Does anyone have experience of not being banned on the sportsbook? I think I managed a month of clearing up the best arbs I have ever seen when it first opened before being limited to nothing.

I think I lasted 2-3 weeks before being limited to nothing - what great days those were while they lasted. :D

Archangel, the sportsbook is just like a bookie. They will restrict you (or effectively ban you) but the email usually encourages you to use the exchange, it certainly won't affect your ability to trade on the exchange.

same as above, was some strange prices on the sportsbook like 1.5 to back when was 1.4 to lay on betfair could get 2000 or so on, but limited after 20 or so bets, can keep betting as usual on exchange

Never understood why they offer such odds and restrict anyone who takes them. :?

yes strange they wouldnt keep in line with exchange prices, maybe because betfair sportsbook doesnt show up on odds comparison sites there arent many arbers?
But i remember it was big games like championsleague football and masters 1000 tennis matches

Just take out a big bet on Bale to go Chelsea this summer. 65/1. I'm sure you'll be noted a sucker for life by them

Or Lozano at 50/1, or Isco 34/1, or Perisic 10/1, or....or.

I would give them the benefit of doubt to say it's just those marking up the specific markets that's morons, rather than them trying to rob unsuspecting customers, but there's too many of them.

Chelsea have a transfer ban...for anyone not following football ;)

Dont the main bookmakers now have software that hook into Betfair so they know the 'real' prices

I know most of the odds compilers have been let go in the last ten years at many bookies !

The sportsbook shows up on oddschecker.com, but what always beat the hell out of me is why, when other bookies eventually reacted to the exchange, Betfair were happy to let arbers suck money out of the sportsbook, sometimes until near the off!

yes its strange never been into arbing much but betfair odds sometimes way out of line and football match odds i could get 2000-3000 on a few times when the lay price on betfair was quite a few ticks lower, surely that cant be profitable for betfair, also tennis odds often werent in line especially in play.

I was gubbed on the Sportsbook after a couple of offers with free bets and a couple of arbs at stakes of £50 max. I think maybe it was 7 or 8 bets altogether. No effect on exchange trading though.

completely agree with this, it seems like if they don't like how you're betting, you're out. Sometimes it is even easier to get banned and restricted than to actually get your account active

There's no wonder punting interest in dogs and horses is dying a death, even losers have good streaks that get them banned. And the exchange is no alternative because you can't even get 50quid on a dog at a decent price until about 5mins before the off, and what regular working Joe is sat round waiting to do that!

If I was still working at the office I'd be sitting around all day to get my £50 on and write a few lines of code in between races. :D
