Hi,

I placed a tennis back bet today on a single game, the odds here approx 130ish I placed the bet and waited for the lay side to be profitable to trade out, it never had a figure come into it the whole game through. I lost my bet as it could not be matched, Has anyone had this or is it me being slow or stupid?

The odds were 130 ?

Probably a combination of not enough liquidity on that market and the odds to high.

What made you choose to back this particular player, at odds of 130ish, at that point in the match?

Did the player perform well and their in-running odds shorten with the bookies? It seems odd that if they were doing well no-one would try to back them on the exchange. Perhaps the best thing in future is to place your back bet but then at the same time offer lay odds a few ticks lower so that if the player is performing well rather than have to wait to manually cash out, your lay bet would be taken quicker?

What made you choose to back instead of lay, or why did you feel the lay side was going to be profitable?

When you open a trade it can either move in your direction or move against you for a loss.

Hi Derek I normally back first and then lay once the price drops generally it’s scalping with small profits should I be doing it the opposite way? I would welcome any suggestions

Whether you back or lay first, you'll never get anywhere by randomly betting and hoping for the best. There has to be reason and purpose for opening any trade. Dallas wrote an excellent post explaining how to use tennis trader and the angle you look for when trading tennis.
