No offence but if you do not know with 99% surety then do not reply as I can conjecture very well myself but do not know exactly how.

Thanks

hey thomas, might be useful to add your own conjecture and then potentially it could lead to a correction (if required) on your hypothesis.

no offence, but no one is going to reply based on the assertion posed ;)

They send someone to the race and they click a button when the stall opens, sometimes they get it wrong.

I've never really given this much thought before but I believe they have reps at the UK/Irish horse race meetings also possibly the dog meetings they cover. These reps would be responsible for signalling the off or suspending/re-ordering the markets in the event of late withdrawals. This begs the question what about foreign racing like French, US, S Africa? Again this is more of an educated guess but lkely they have some kind of live coomunication link/liason with officials or agents at those tracks to know when a race is off or again if there is a withdrawal, stewards enq etc. This makes sense as when you're logged into betfair you'll see the market is 'in play' seconds before the video commentary.

Thanks for the input ANGELS15.

As for the rest of the posters...
I’m not sure what motivates you and countless 1000s of others who fill forums with drivel and make finding interesting and useful information more difficult. Grow up!

The first two words of your original post, "no offence", indicates that you were aware of a risk that people may find the question mildly offensive or not take it seriously. Also, "99% sure" often gets perceived as 100%, 90% or 90-100%, so that didn't help. This after all is a forum where people share opinions which can collectively lead to certainty, so if you want a quick and accurate answer perhaps you would have been better off contacting Betfair directly.

By the way, Angels15 doesn't appear to by 99% sure and gave you an 'educated guess', which is not what you were asking for, but after reading the other responses that you call drivel you realised an educated guess is what you should have asked for.

This thread seems to have got a bit caustic sadly.

I have no idea how they do it but there are so many potential ways now. They could even have cameras with AI that can tell when the race has started.

Maybe they find the drivel interesting and the useful information boring? Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional :)

This is sidetracking, but I think 'drivel' has something to do with the inability of the original poster to meet the general forum goers at their level. And consequentially the desire's of general forum goers to implement attitude correction...

Consider you were a hard working worker at a retail store...a spoiled self absorbed spoiled teenager wanting the latest phone without having to work for it comes in...They demand answers, don't frame questions in helpful ways, they just want what they want without consideration of the retail workers time or prior efforts.... The natural response of the retail worker is to make it harder for the self absorbed teenager to get what they want in order to implement some form of attitude adjustment... the difference in this instance is the retail worker must balance the needs of his contractual obligations to his employer with personal desires...

Forum goers have no obligation to do anything for anyone (other than abide by the rules). So the attempt at attitude adjustment happens in a myriad of ways...not necessarily for the benefit of the original poster...and that's only fair...

Anyway, sorry crapping on about something probably unrelated...I wonder if I even make sense :)
