Dear community
I apologise if this question has been raised before. I thought I had raised it previously but I've searched the forum in vain and also the internet to no avail.
I've noticed on a couple of occasions recently that when I've submitted a DOB bet, I've watched the race and the horse has not run well enough to shorten to my target lay price so it was basically a losing bet. However I've looked at the graph for the horse and noticed that it traded at a lower price than my lay offer?
Just for clarification I'll use an example. I've dobbed a horse at odds 12.0 with a 'keep' in-running lay bet at 6.0. I've watched the race and the horse has not run well enough for the odds to drop to 6.0. I've noticed during the race the odds dropping as low as 7.8 before drifting right back out as the horse's efforts fade.
The race is now over and I can see my 2 bets displayed, one matched at 12.0 with the unmatched lay bet at 6.0. These bets normally display for a a minute or so after the race.
I often use Betfair mobile and there is a little graph symbol next to the in-running symbol, by touching the graph symbol you can see the matched odds highs and lows for each horse.
I decide out of curiosity to have a look a my horse and am surprised to see it traded as low as 4.0! Albeit only for about £15 but there were also a couple of small trades at 4.5 and 5.0 yet my bet at 6.0 was unmatched? Not only that but watching the race itself the horse was not really running well and the odds never appeared to drop below 7.8.
I remember about 3 years ago the first time I noticed this I rang Betfair customer services, the guy on the end of the line sounded embarrassed but could offer no explanation.
It has happened very rarely. As i stated earlier I think I raised the query on here before but can't for the life of me find it. Also looked at the internet to no avail. I can't believe it has only happened to me.
The very first time I assumed I'd forgotten to 'keep' my lay bet (I did a manual DOB not using automation).
These last 2 occasions have been in the past 10 days and the lay bets were definately 'kept'. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be happening?
in-running bets matched at worse odds than my offer price
It's probably due to cross-matching. I've no idea why they thought it was a good idea to implement this on in-running stuff. But basically some other bet somewhere else may get matched at a lower price before your bet actually gets matched at that price. I'd have a few quid, that this is what is happening.
Thanks for the input I was wondering if cross matching had something to do with it. A worse case example I had dobbed a horse last week at odds 80.0 for a small stake £6, the offset was set at 40.0. The horse didnt run well and seemed to drop to around 60.0 in-running. When I checked the graph it indicated lowest traded price 20.0! for small stakes of around £5 but there was also some other small money at around 25.0 and 30.0?

Why not write to Betfair, quote the facts and ask them to explain. And don't accept the probable initial brush-off response. Keep at them until you get a satisfactory explanation. I'm sure suppliers get away with much more than they should because people can't be bothered to keep the complaint going until the complaint has been satisfactorily answered. Remember service standards are set at the lowest the customer will accept for the product. If we don't complain we can't moan about the service.
Thanks Firlandsfarm. Sadly in my experience Befair customer service is absolute shite. In the past you could talk direct with an expert or at least somebody who knew what they were talking about.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 8:57 amWhy not write to Betfair, quote the facts and ask them to explain. Nowadays if you can get through to the 'help desk' they seem to be people not that technically knowlegeable. the real experts are somewhere unreachable in the background.
I've pursued complaints with them before to no avail. nowadays they don't seem to invest much in the technical support side of things. typically what happens are emails flying backwards and forwards with lengthy delays and no real resolution to the problem. I'm just surprised that I can't find other examples from other people online. I know I've experienced it at least 4 times.

Everytime I read such a comment of complaint failures I keep thinking I really should do that website www.writetothechairman.com (yes I do have that domain and www.righttothechairman.com as an intended play on words

I've found another example: Today I dobbed 'By Rail' in the 4.20 lingfield. Backed 4 times for small stakes at odds 73 -85 with offset bets at odds 36 - 42. I thought it might drop to those prices in running. It touched 55 in running according to my observation during the race. Immediately after the race I looked at it's graph on betfair which shows lowest matched price 23! My bets were never matched.
I've taken screen shots from my phone as I was using Betfair mobile. I would like to post those images on here but am not that tech savvy. Anyone have any ideas how I could do this?

When you say it was matched lower in running if your looking at the traded amounts next to the prices are you sure these could have been from when the market first opened before the price later drifted out

To be honest I assumed the graph prices referred to 'in-running' as it was forcast as being a big outsider and had been big prices throughout the day. Looking again at the graph the lowest prices matched were quite early in the odds history. If that graph history is taking in the whole day and not just the in-running market then perhaps that explains things. I just looked at Timeform for the horse and it shows lowest in-running price matched '48' which would explain why my bets weren't matched.Dallas wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 9:53 pmBelow the box you type your message in is an attachment tab, just click that and 'Add files

Isn't it amazing how we can take things for granted. I had assumed that just as the market changes during in-running that also the graph would change over to reflect the in-running odds. What also illustrates my previous point about betfair technical support and how the people they staff it with don't seem to know much more than lay people, when I had queried this a few years ago they couldn't explain it to me and were as confused as I was.
