Interested to hear people's opinions on the features and tweaks that make BA the best for in-running.
i would say without a doubt, it is the fact that BA uses streaming. this allows you to get down to 20ms which is a huge advantage over polling based software which generally is centered around 100ms. also, i'd say that the automation tools allow for some pretty advanced logic to be applied to the market. this toolset is obviously being actively developed and enhanced all the time, so you are not stuck with a static codebase for years on end.
Funnily enough I forgot all about streaming and 20ms refresh rate, one of those things you take for granted but forgot others don't have it
And don't know why but I read/assumed the question related to manual in-running trading, I do much more fully automated IR so of course I'll second JimiBt's comments about the overall automation logic available

Yeah manual IR is my usual gambit - does BA allow the cross overs to be a different colour now?
But automation for IR horses is something I want to explore more. Know it can benefit my IR trading in unknown ways.
Is there a primer to get started please?

Yes, you can use 'Markers' in the ladder settings editor to highlight fixed odds (among a ton of other stuff), or theres a ready-made ladder settings file here you can use

Or this one does X-over and fractional odds

If by 'Primer' you mean any examples/starting points there are nearly 50 ready-made rules files here you can download which will give you some idea's as to whats possible?

A combination of customisation, servants and keystrokes makes it much easier to beat people who are trying to decide where to click on a screen.

Simple choice for me. BA is being developed and improved at a relentless pace, others aren't. So even if it doesn't do exactly what you want there's a good chance it will soon, esp as they take customer suggestions seriously. Ditto BAs ability to integrate with Excel, if it doesn't do something then you can build it yourself and plug it in. Everyone starts trading hoping to be doing it for years so it makes sense to invest in something that's going to be around and be better in years to come. BA always stuck me as the software most likely to stay in the game. VHS vs Betamax init.
