Signals v Stored Values

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is there anything you can do with a signal that you can't do with a stored value?

Edit: while I'm here, can a signal hold a value of zero or is that the same as being cleared?

I don't believe there is, but I find that signals are better used to monitor events happening or not happening, whereas SVs are ideal for actions based on numeric values e.g. prices, volume, liabilities, timings etc.
