How bad does it get?
Hi, been trading for 6 months now, didnt see the winter racing so was wondering if anyone knows how bad do the markets get? I know there are many meeting withdraws but in terms of liquidity and market opportunities is it totally horrible or manageable? From Heathcotes Pnls it seems the markets are fairly good?
Its manageable. At the moment the jumps races we're having are a bit weaker in terms of volume due to the lack of recent form for punters. In a few weeks this will pick up as the season gets into full swing. But come proper winter time it can be very frustrating will all the cancellations that are likely. January and February are generally the toughest months both in terms of weather and also volumes dip a bit during these times too. But its certainly no disaster, though you may have to tweak your strategies a bit / lower your stakes at times

I thought last year would be a pain with the drop in meetings but it turned out fine for me and made just as much as the summer months for much less hours. Hgodden's right you just need to tweak strategies a little which is actually a good thing. Didn't notice any drop in liquidity and if anything the less meetings meant the same money was being put thru less markets which meant things were alot more static prices and regular movements rather than the erractic markets we get on a saturday with races clashing every 5 minutes or so.
It does become a pain when meetings start being cancelled left right and centre, and you may be tempted up stakes etc to maintain the same level of pnl but you just have to avoid that. I can see how some may find it lean times but it's certainly not the end of the world and still plenty of cash to be made as there are decent meetings almost every week during the winter season
