Is it just me, or is Wagner priced a bit high at 150.0?
I doubt very much that he will win. But I bet people will vote for him for the same reasons that they voted for Jedward. He makes the competition interesting, he's the plucky underdog, and his continued presence in the competition is likely to annoy Simon Cowell!
So I think he will shorten considerably over the next few weeks before he gets booted out. What do you guys think?

Wagner in the X Factor
I love trading the "special" markets in Betfair I find them so easy to trade.
I agree with you in parts I've been backing him the 200-400 odds range and have laid off my stake on him which has left me a fair bit up on him overall. (I honestly don't see him getting down or even close to the 8 or whatever odds Jedward went down to last year but I knew it would be easy to trade out at a lower price on him and since I laid off my original stake on him I don't lose anything now).
Personally I don't think Jedward and Wagner annoy Simon Cowell by staying in the competition at all, infact IMO it's exactly what he wants and he is manipulating it so that they stay in it in the early rounds, purely because it gets people talking about the show.
It's been proven that people who are at the beginning of the show get less votes than they normally would and often the person who gets eliminated that week are usually one of the first few to sing, also the prime slot to sing is the last few as they are remembered more I guess.
He obviously wouldn't want Jedward or Wagner to win as they are poor against the others but if he can get people talking about the show and getting more people watching it then they will.
When I say manipulating it I don't mean that they fix the phone votes etc I just mean keeping them out of the first few to sing or leaving them to one of the last slots etc, (take this week for instance).
When he wants them out he will either stick them at the beginning of the show or suddenly start saying things like "you know what, I'm actually beginning to like you guys" etc.

Hi Mike
I agree with you about Cowell. He'll pretend to hate Wagner being in the competition, but will love the publicity it brings!
As regards manipulation, I once heard that psychologist say that what people remember are first impressions and last impressions, and they often forget about the bit in the middle. So perhaps the same applies to the X Factor. It was uncanny years ago how often the last act would win Stars In Their Eyes...
BTW, what I like about Wagner is that he's a 'what you see is what you get' kind of guy. He doesn't just come out with bland 'I'd like to thank the judges for their feedback' comments that were obviously scripted by a PR man, when the contestant feels like saying 'What does an ex Home and Away soap star who had a few minor hits thanks to her sister's massive success know about music?!?'

I had seen Wagner as a lovable buffoon, but there have been a couple of stories, such as this one, which cast him a different light:

Wagner's now been booted out of the X Factor house, bless him:

I wouldn't want to be staying in the hotel room next to his, being kept up all night with his bad Elvis impersonations!

I suppose it's an outlet to bet on and profit is profit but apart from the the odd few that are talentd it's all emperor's clothes this reality rubbish the bloke is a complete plant pot at least his carer dissapation light is blinking in his eye.
What's worse getting booted off in the early stages when you are a no mark or getting the bullet after all the supposed adulation from the red top rag press etc and then being let go when everyones told you, you were Great...."NOT". Left cold and alone with the haunting thoughts that Jedward got further than you.
I'm sorry I would not want the plank opening a Christmas Panto or a Summer Fete. Or maybe I'm just harsh

It's hard to know what to believe about Wagner, given that the media will portray a sensationalist view of his antics.
I don't think even Wagner believes he's a good singer. But he's entertaining - I'll give him that! And the show would be less interesting if you just had bland and uncontroversial singers, however talented.
BTW, I thought his comments to Cheryl Cole today were inspired!
Incidentally, was it just me (I'd had a bit to drink!), or were Danni Minogue's comments about Wagner's performance complete gobbledegook?

I think Cheryl Cole done him a favour last night Jeff!
She showed herself up. If she's got a problem with his comments then have it out with him behind the scenes, by doing it on a live show she ended up embarrassing herself not him
I suppose he should count himself lucky that he's not a black toilet attendant

I agree.
It was an attempt to be a working class hero that backfired (and there the similarities between her and John Lennon end)!
BTW, I thought Simon Cowell was rude to Dermot O'Leary with his 'people who know what they're talking about' comment.
O'Leary was only doing his job, and had made a valid and intelligent point IMHO.

The final eight all go on the X Factor tour getting £100,000 or so plus there are all the P.A.'s plus all the other stuff they get out of it so I would say most of them are very happy to get on the show as it equals a nice pay day - not sure how much a Tesco checkout person gets but I bet it would take a fair few years to earn what they are going to earn in a year by being on X Factor. As for Jedward they have made a fortune that will set them up for the rest of their lives so good on them.lilgreenback wrote:I suppose it's an outlet to bet on and profit is profit but apart from the the odd few that are talentd it's all emperor's clothes this reality rubbish the bloke is a complete plant pot at least his carer dissapation light is blinking in his eye.

Wagner clearly wants to do something in showbiz and this is no doubt going to lead to him being able to do something. You may not want him to open a Panto but there are clearly lots of people who do like him as he is still in the show and has never been in the bottom two which just goes to show that the public do like him - many won't but also many do.
What that shows about the society we live in though is another matter but I have no issue with these guys going on X Factor or the show itself, it gives people an opportunity that is normally closed to them, yes Cowell gets a lot of money out of it but why shouldn't he. I say good luck to them all and all bar Wagner perhaps can sing a lot better than a lot of the people in the charts today.

If that's the case that they get 100k for the tour then it can't be sniffed at. A colleague in work had either a close friend or relative go on the show a couple of years ago and they did quite well, they did not make the last 8 though however they enjoyed the experiance. I don't know what they did afterwards but they were in college/performing arts at the time. I could not get enthused about it then either, so it must be me I'm just miserable
!!
I have to admit it takes a lot of guts to get up on stage in a show, concert or village fete so credit where it's due. It's popular, people like it and for those who have made it from total obscurity to be given that chance then as you say good luck to them.
I think in some ways that is just it, and it is not only in the aspect of the X factor. In the area I work in we have had a couple of youngsters on the books a Premiership Clubs the distraction and pressure that this puts on parents and the children concerned has been enormous. Building the hopes and dreams that they are going to make it. There is nothing wrong with dreams but sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.
