Hey there, I'm an aussie trader.

I trade uk racing only, response times are poor over here 400+, so I mainly look for swing trades, would love to get into scalping but need to improve my response times which I'm looing into atm.

I don't trade aust racing, I dunno whether you are in Oz or not but as you may or may not know, you can only really trade on Wed and Sat race meetings when the Metropolitan races are run.

during the week its mainly the country/regional racing, which dosen't attract much money so I don't bother.

but as Peter says there is always oppurtunity in any market, I'm just trying to master the uk markets 1st lol

I am in the UK but interested in trading AUS races. I just don't have any real awareness of what is good or not. I've learnt already thanks to your post. I just don't know if and what is worth trading if I have a go. So anything to help that is much appreciated. The only race I ever heard of is the Melbourne Cup.

Do they do jumps in Austrailia?

if you go to:

http://www.racingandsports.com.au/usa/wager_classif.asp

and read that you'll have a better understanding

the races that attract the most liquidity are under the heading of "Major circuit races" and "Mid-level" circuit races.

so stick the races tracks under these headings and you'll be ok.

liquidity only really picks up in the last 5 mins b4 the races starts and/ or the previous race finishes, this is because most people over here are just gamblers who usually bet in the last 5 minutes

jump races are really rare here so I can alomst say no they don't do jumps here.

and if you want to know all the really big races down here you can go to :
http://www.aussiepunter.com/home/

and look around the site, they have all the major races in australia and info about them and when they are run, hope this help ;)

Do Rule4 / scratch rules work the same way down under as in the UK?

Interesting experiment but most races were not worth the early start it has to be said. The group races were ok though.

Looks like a quieter week this week so no early morning for me!

Does anyone know if in-running is standard for all the Aussie races (on Betfair), or just available for certain races. And also are the suspension times accurate, or perhaps a little hit and miss like the US racing! I find the additinal security of accurate off times, and in-running for a last ditch trade out very comforting. I recently saw a post from Peter Webb trading the Aussie Racing. I found that very encouraging as I would not expect a trader with his experience to get involved in markets unless they were worthwhile.

I live is aus and trade races here nearly every day. IR is only on metropolitan races (Saturday and Wednesday only) at this point. Unless you have live pics forget in running here. You can trade most races here on any day however Mondays and Fridays I would only trade races where there us a very short priced favorite... You just won't get the liquidity on any other races. And you really can't trade before 3 minutes before the off. Having said that, the races NEVER go early and mostly are on time or within 1 minute of official start time

Ancientsong, have you looked into a VPS? I use a VPS to trade all foreign markets. You will still get the same delay in data entry, but you will gain access to a system in London taking advantage of a 0-15ms ping to the main server.

Hey Brent, What's a VPS and does it cost anything? Thanks!

Hi guys, new here,

Any Aussie traders find a couple races at Eaglefarm today continually going into suspension right up to the off?

I noticed they suspended about four minutes briefly but nothing beyond that. That seems quite common. Did you see something different?
