Amazing how stuff from yesteryear still rings true like comedy even listening to The Jam and their take on working class life in Britain.

Can't beat a bit of an Alf Garnett rant on the cost of living (rant corner best place of Alf god bless him)

Inspired by this post, got me thinking about song lyrics and particular, favourite opening lines to songs. This one definitely was not radio 1 friendly back in the day:

would be nice to see a few other posts that quote lyrical content and either profane of profound lyrics.. :)

I'm from just outside Woking and Weller is God there. First band I ever saw.

Quite a lot of swearing, but sone pretty profound lyrics at the same time.

Ghosts and Carnation are particular favourites

Might have guessed it would be Ian Dury. I've often heard his lyrics were profound but wondered why - I used to listen to Radio One at the time. :)

This one definitely was not radio 1 friendly back in the day:
Talking of Radio One, I used to listen to the new charts at 5/6pm every Sunday. There was a song with the lyrics, "I want to fuck you like an animal". The DJ on one occasion mistakenly played the explicit version ... and must have buggered off to the toilet, because he played the full song.

There's a few songs that never seem to get radio play, Xzibit (dude from Pimp my Ride) had a classic I've never heard on the radio. Catchy chorus but you wouldn't want to be singing it waiting around to pick the kids up from school or in church
