If I were a Newcastle fan, I'd be tearing my hair out!

Like Chelsea, they seem unable to just appoint a manager and leave him to get on with his job without interference!

The fact that they sacked the great Sir Bobby Robson and parted company with Kevin Keegan says a lot about the way the club is run IMHO.

I thought he had done OK this year. They must have somebody else lined up?

I think Newcastle's expectations may be unrealistic, considering they haven't won any silverware for over 50 years!

And let's face it - if the late, great Sir Bobby Robson wasn't deemed good enough for them, no-one will be!

That's astonishing, stuffing Sunderland alone is worth a ten year contract with the fans. If Leeds didn't have Simon Grayson I'd be happy to see him here

I hope Hughton does what Big Sam did, and establishes himself a great career at another club, and makes the Newcastle board look silly for getting rid of him.

Sol Campbell isn't impressed by the sacking:

It's come to something when a player publicly slams a board's decision...

I've just had £25 at 2.7 on Martin Jol

He's left Ajax by mutual consent tonight........coincidence??

I've put £2 on Alan Shearer at 220.0

He's hinted he'd be interested in the job:

He's a legend at St James', and he loves the club. And although his previous spell as Newcastle manager didn't go great, can you really judge someone after just 8 games?

I don't think he'll get the job - the club have said that Hughton lacked experience, so it would be odd if they appointed someone with even less experience.

But at those odds, it seemed good value...

You can now lay him at 1.75 - the odds have just tumbled.

I got back out at 1.80

£12.50 profit isn't too bad on this kind of market

Have to say this is a surprise. Given the management talent on the bench at the moment Ashley must have been trying to line this up for a while. Not sure the Newcastle fans will be happy.

I'm amazed, absolutely stunned

He refused to give a lengthy contract to a guy who gained them promotion and the fans & players loved

He then gives a 5 year contract to a bloke recently sacked by a League 1 club, whose last job in the PL saw him relegate Charlton

Mind you, Ashley did bring Joe Kinnear in from the wilderness who then spent his first press conference calling everyone a c*nt
