Why people bet heavily with online Casino's?
I saw an X account having a go at Flutter for not stopping them gambling (pre affordability era). They even posted up an account statement: -

But why oh why do people bet on games they must know they are going to lose. But also, I've never understand why people bet with online Casinos. If you are going to blow money that way, you could at least do it at a real Casino where you get some entertainment and company.
I just don't get it? Why do people do this?
I'll never understand
I'm not sure that any entertainment and/or company at an irl casino would be worth it eitherEuler wrote: ↑Fri Jun 27, 2025 11:49 amWhy people bet heavily with online Casino's?

I'm always determined to drink the house edge away when in Vegas.
Before I started trading I did take on a few casino bonuses using a matched betting type site. Given the known % returns of certain slots I was able to use the bonuses and minimum bets wagered to make a grand or so. Likewise I created a bot to play perfect blackjack, using join bonuses to wager enough to withdraw profits
That was a one off per site\login and is the only way I'm aware of to beat the house edge, otherwise it's a mugs game
It's funny, I have a mate who is insistent he has an edge on roulette, using the "system" he's picked up. I spent a while taking him through the maths, showing him for every 40 bets, he'll lose x% of bank. He refuses to accept it as he's up at the moment. I'm waiting on the crash.....

Because they know they are going to lose.
In losing, they validate their own belief that they are one of life's losers, that everything in life is always against them, or that they are in a destructive spiral of ever-decreasing self worth. The wins, losses, % returns and timescales mean nothing; it goes much deeper than any of that. In my casino days, I was friends with many of these men who'd lost marriages, houses, jobs and their own dignity. Losing was their way of saying "See?, I just knew that would happen, because losing is what my life is all about."

Because people are gambling? Odds/value/returns/ev blah blah blah apply at only at the scale and people do (sometimes) put their money down and win more than the stats say they should.
It's just the difference between making your living gambling, and having a speculative bet.
I do the Euro lottery, worst odds ever but it's a punt.

People don't always think about value, some people happily spend a grand on a phone when one for 200 would do the job just as well.
A little punt is fine, but this guy was squandering a fortune on an online Casino.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Fri Jun 27, 2025 2:34 pmBecause people are gambling? Sounds like addiction rather than there being a logical reason. We've all got one, mine's fags, for some it's drink, or money or collecting Dinky cars.
7 billion people, some aren't going to be wired up right.
