I hear people saying that in-play odds move so fast that they can crash through your stop loss and you can't get matched.

This of course means that automation bets would often cost ££££.

But if you set a trigger at a given point, can't you make use of Betfair matching at best odds feature and make your lay or back bet very high/low to ensure match so if a trade is going wrong way it should exit with minimal loss.

Or am I over simplistic? I saw this idea somewhere so can't claim it as me being clever!

The size of the bet needed to green up is calculated at the price its placed at.

If its matched at a better price you'll have over backed (or layed), the more ticks between the placement price of the bet and actual matched price the greater the imbalance will be

In my opinion, it is rarely worth greening up or exiting in-play in a horse race. You will end up giving away an enormous amount of expected value.

From a P&L perspective it's best to let open trades run and stake accordingly.
