I have an android phone and I love it.

The fastest way to write on a phone I've seen and I'm sure many will follow them.

I've had an Advent Vega since Christmas and have been very pleased with it. Haven't used an iPad so hard to compare (a little less slick I imagine, but half the price and supports Flash).

We got my Dad a Samsung Galaxy Tab for Christmas and I must say I'm pretty impressed with it. It's not quite as slick as the current generation iOS devices, but it's probably 90%+ there. That said Angry Birds plays just as well if not better than my iPhone 4.
Definitely worth a look at if you ask me, but don't go with a cheap tablet, the Samsung is probably the best one out there at the moment. It may be worth waiting for tabs supporting gingerbread though as the experience will be a lot better, the current v1 Samsung tab is not going to 'officially' support it.
The Blackberry playbook is also getting good press coming out of CES as it appears to be the best tablet device for performing true multi-tasking. Though I would have reservations about it as it is not likely to be widely supported by developers (or users) like iOS, Android or WP7, certainly in the short term anyway.

The motorola xoom got the biggest hype at CES but until they announce the spec of the iPad2 it's hard to comment. I suspect it will be at the highest end spec wise. Cameras are a defo but it's the display I am interested in. If it is close resolution wise to the retina display no other tablet will get close this year.

Would an Ipad be any good for controlling a media PC?
I have recently bought a new PC for trading so have moved my 'old' PC and connected it up to a 40" TV so as to get the full internet on the TV rather than just the limited stuff you get on Sony TV's like Youtube, Iplayer, Lovefilm etc.
I have been looking at the best way to control it all and was thinking of just using an Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and a wireless mouse but just thought while reading this thread that it would perhaps be good to use an Ipad?
Could you say remote desktop into the PC so you have the screen displayed both on the monitor (TV) and the Ipad and then use the Ipad to navigate and type on?
If you were to do this would there be much of a lag or would it all be pretty much real time?
An example of a use would be say sitting on the sofa fire up Chrome, then go to 4OD and type in the search Inbetweeners then click on the play and full screen it, turning up the volume.
Any Ipad owners know if this would work?

Cheers for the reply Jim - have you ever used it like this?
when I first got my iPad I set it up with a VNC client so I could log into my desktop and take my ipad around my flat and monitor any positions but in reality I haven't used it for that purpose since I set it up about 10 months ago. I can have a play with it though and see if it can be set up to do what you are asking just to confirm for you.

If you could that would be great mate.
I have had a pretty good look on Youtube to see if I could find any videos of people using it as I describe but couldn't find any which was surprising as I would have thought this would have been an ideal use for the Ipad as at present the only options really are a wireless keyboard and mouse.
You can get a mouse that acts a bit like the Wii controller but have seen mixed reviews of it but I would think using the Ipad would be great - effectively like having your big TV as a touchscreen device
Other option would be to hack a Xbox Kinect and then I could just wave my arms about but I think that is a bit past my PC capabilities though there are some cool videos on Youtube of people doing it
