Football, Soccer - whatever you call it. It is the beautiful game.

Do you guys think Torres actually wants to leave?

Or is he just hoping for a pay rise?

I think he wants to leave

He's not looked happy since Rafa was sacked

I think he would have been about the only person at Anfield who was sad to see him go!

I'm not sure he'd be happier at Chelsea though. It appears that there is already discontent in their ranks, so he wouldn't be joining a happy family. And there's no guarantee he'd start every game - he's an extremely good player, but so are Drogba and Anelka...

Liverpool fans will hate me for saying this but I wonder if his best days are behind him due to injuries.
Maybe Liverpool better off taking silly money from a desparate Abramovich?

Similar story with Rooney - you look at the game against Blackpool when the game turned once Rooney was off the park and maybe Fergie wishes he had cashed in.

Hi Dave

Re: Torres - Possibly, particularly as they've just bought a new striker. Also, if Torres doesn't want to play for Liverpool, you have to wonder whether he'll play with passion, or just neg out his teammates and the supporters.

As for Rooney, I wouldn't be surprised if Fergie got rid of him in the summer (which may have been part of the reason for the new contract!). He's scored 3 goals this season! Diego Forlan was prolific by comparison! OK, that may be partly because Rooney's been setting up opportunities for Berbatov to put away. But I don't think Rooney will be happy and firing on all cylinders until he's regularly scoring again.

There's talk that Liverpool want £40 million plus Anelka for Torres:

Anelka's a top player! There's no way Torres is worth £40 million more than him!

They should take it if they can get it. It's more than he's worth and like you say Jeff what's the point in keeping a player whose heart isn't in it - unfortunately this is the nature of moden football.

There are plenty of players who I'm sure you could tempt to the club with that kind of cash available and who will probably be less injury prone. Liverpool of all clubs should know the toll that injuries take on once prolific strikers.

Apparently Torre's move to Chelski has broken down as his wife couldn't agree terms with JT

The world of football is just insane

Liverpool today reveal an operating loss of £68 million, but still spend £57 million in a week on two strikers

Carroll wasn't good enough to make it into the England's World Cup squad last summer (and let's face it, England aren't blessed with loads of world class strikers!).

Yet Liverpool are paying £30 million for him!

Bizarre!

TORRES DEAL AGREED

Liverpool Football Club tonight confirmed they have agreed a fee with Chelsea for the sale of Fernando Torres.

The player has now been given permission to speak to the London club.

As a Man U fan, I take pleasure in the knowledge that Liverpool have blown a sizable chunk of that on Andy Carroll! You'd think he was the new Wayne Rooney or Christiano Ronaldo for the amount they've paid!

If Liverpool offered to swap him for the £10 million Hernandez, Fergie would collapse on the floor in tears of laughter!

I think Hernandez was only £6M http://www.manutd24.com/united-players/ ... s-just-6m/

Either way I'm sure Fergie will be smugly enjoying a glass of red tonight - he is spot on when he says there is no value in the market right on.
Hernandez has a great strike rate at international level (11 in 20 games, incuding 2 at the WC finals - 13 starts, 7 as sub) as well as club level whereas Caroll at £35M has yet to fully break into the England team and we hardly have a surplus of quality strikers.
Having said all that if Torres kickstarts Chelsea's fading season and they go on to retain their title I'm sure Abramovich won't miss the £50M!

Hi Dave

Yesterday, Cappello must have been scratching his head, thinking 'Have I missed a trick with Carroll, or have Liverpool just been robbed?!?'.

He's scored 11 goals in 19 games this season, which is impressive, though hardly mindblowing. And he's yet to show how he can perform in international football. Also, there are possible discipline issues. He's alleged to have assaulted a former teammate and a former girlfriend, not to mention the time he glassed someone - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Carroll.

All in all, it's a bizarre decision!

But I agree with you about Torres - his move is win, win.
