Best time for holidays?
With the summer being so good (in racing trading terms) compared to winter it can be hard to draw yourself away from it for too long but from memory it does tend to be pretty crap after the big festivals - I remember it being pretty poor the week after Ascot from the past, so I've got something booked up for then..... but I was wondering if you guys remember it being pretty poor the week after Glorious Goodwood too?
if you feel you need a break, i would recommend just take one irrespective of how good or how much the racing there is.
i had a week off recently and its done me the world of good, also im having more time off in july.
the benefits of a resonable length break seem to be paying off in spades for myself at the moment.

Thanks, I agree but I'm going great at the moment
I'm looking at prevention more than cure here, certainly if I just carried on all summer I would start suffering at some point, thats why I'm trying to plan things out best now. I always try to take time off when its poor, every year the week off after cheltenham when is so poor so thats always a good opportunity. Personally I find that a small break every 2 or 3 months just about keeps me operating at decent levels, though I'm not as dedicated as many people here - I always take a couple of days a week off and rarely do evenings

its good that your going great at the moment.
i have always found the day racing to slump between the epsom derby meeting and the royal ascot meeting in june, and then pretty steady up to glorious goodwood in july. again a bit of a slump and build up to the york ebor festival midish of august.
then a little slump and a small peak for the st ledger meeting at the start of september, then quite a decline, i assume while things get into the autumn/early winter racing and the end of the evening cards.
the evening stuff as always seemed to me to quite steady, apart from the irish meetings. this year there seems much more money about on most evening irish cards, having said that downpatrick was real poor last night.

I definitely agree with the above. I have been doing this for many years and have found that a break is essential. I would not suggest you just drop everything and go irrespective of racing but my experience has taught me there is always another opportunity. If you decide you don't want to have a break because you might miss a good day's trading then you will never be able to get away. I am not suggesting you will do this but just bear it in mind when trying to decide on a breakto75ne wrote:if you feel you need a break, i would recommend just take one irrespective of how good or how much the racing there is.

Bearing in mind I only tend to do the afternoon cards, personally I find September and October to be pretty decent months - always feels to me like when the evening races stop a bit extra seems to get added to the afternoon volumes.
Next year all being well I definately want to take a month or two off at the start of the year. The one little moan I have about trading is that its so much worse in winter when there's not so much else to do, that and the fact that it would be much nicer to trade in the mornings and have the afternoons off rather than visa versa!

funny how we both experience the same period in opposite ways. i suppose i have a more clouded view as i tend to trade the evenings as well and i see the overall picture as a slump. i will try and keep that in mind when the time comes. loss of evenings but some extra volume during the afternoons.hgodden wrote:[

I always holiday in the winter and head right around the world for my sunshine at that time of year. I have always made hay while the sun shines in the summer. That said a good friend is getting married in June so I will be taking a little time off to fly out to his wedding which promises to be a memorable one.

definately would like to go to that but I am already commited to snowboarding the first week after new year and the vegas trip is a stag do so the dates are out of my control. Its going to be very expensive and ridiculously debaucherous! Just my type of trip!!

You can't get proper Bacon Sarnies in the US to soak up the alcohol from the night before!!
That would be great having a look around the CES..and then pop next door for the erotica one!
Four of us are flying to vegas on the 30th June...but read an acticle in the mail last week saying that the Virgin Pilots are having a ballot and deciding whether to strike in July!
...Aw well at least we will get there...
Regards
Peter
PS I think anytime is good for a holiday; life is too short..

You need about 15 strips of that crispy crap to make half a sandwich!
