I had just loaded up the markets for today and this is the first race of the day. There was no real movement in the market on the price of the Favourite until suddenly around 13:15 £8K appeared and drove the price below 3.0 That then disappeared but it reappeared down at 2.88 before it disappeared again and reappeared at 2.74. That sat there and then it was pulled totally.
What on earth is someone doing at this time of the day with sums like that? Personally I think someone is having a private bet and they are using Betfair as the vehicle. If you check the owner of this horse he is well known for liking a punt. I am not saying it is him but it does explain why some of these weird amounts are appearing. Personally I have felt for a long time that is why we see these huge spikes, it is a way of a big punter to have a bet and for a layer to take them on.

No Jeff, I think these are layers and backers who are looking to get a bet on a horse. if they phoned a bookie and asked for £8K or £5K they would be knocked back.

Mind you, I cannot grumble because I made a very nice profit on that race and there was still 15 minutes to go before the off!
