This isn't spreadsheet related, but as this is the place where the technical guys hang out, I thought I'd post it here! :)

Let's say someone wanted to develop an open source alternative to Betfair.

What would be the cost in terms of development, hardware, etc (assuming that volunteers couldn't be found to do the development FOC)?

Why?

If someone can offer what Betfair offers, but FOC, don't you think people would choose to pay 0% commission rather than 5%?

'Build it and they will come.' :)

AFAIK, Betdaq isn't open source, nor FOC. :)

Remember a company called Netscape?

They were blown out of the water when Microsoft offered a browser FOC. The same thing could happen to Betfare(sic)...
