Place/kill fill

I have just joined and been studying user guide and youtube videos.
Did first live bet yesterday, £2 stake , global settings , offset, place/ 15 or 20 secs cant remember.
My back stake was taken however lay bet remained on unmatched colunm till just before the race off.

Why? I thought it should have been matched or killed after allotted time.
Eventually it was and showed a very small green profit.
After race I went into befair account and it only showed £2 loss and £2 win, equallying out, no sign of small profit.

I have many many more questions but this will do for now.
