I was wondering what different people use as a Back Up plan if you are caught with an open position and Betfair going down, or you lose your internet connection.
Does anyone use Betfair telephone betting? (If so can you get through when the website has gone down.)
Or perhaps do you use Betdaq or bookmakers to offset positions?
Does anyone use a wireless dongle for Internet landline failure? If so which do you recommend?
I don't do any at the moment, but feel I had better start thinking about it.
What is your 'Back Up Plan of Action'?
1 Have a Betdaq account open with your maximum liability size dont use it to trade with. Only good if BF go down but obviously not if internet goes or pwr failure
2) Mobile dongle, or on phone
Forget telephone banking you wont get through
Most of all dont panic, if you cant get out
PRAY to the trading god for forgiveness of opening the trade he may reward you with a saviour profit

It's all a bit dodgy though, sometimes you don't know if your positions will stand.

I use a back up laptop connected to my O2 blackberry (not recommended) which effectively acts as a dongle. You can have it all set up with the blackberry desktop s/ware so switching over takes 20secs or so. On most mobile contracts you'll have a monthly data limit, mine is 1.5gb which is plenty enough for 3-4hrs of trading. 3G is slow but good enough in most towns and cities to give you a 30sec escape route.
The bigger issue for me is not BF but my BT broadband especially 4pm onwards when everyone switches on and heats up the local exchange. You'd think the chimps that program the load balancing would have the hang of it by now that said I've every confidence the muppets at BF are planning a big service release in time for Cheltenham so it pays to be well prepared, call me cynical, but I don't expect anything other than a white knuckle ride in the months ahead... as usual.

Another option if you were serious would be a UPS backing up you desktop, main monitor, as well as it powering your modem. But still have a laptop with 3G dingle for a little extra insurance. It depends on the rural networks and power cuts. Best we had here is 18hrs out in mid summer nice n warm with no wind. You'd expect it in winter with ice and howling gales.

It's always worth having the lite version of Betfair open too. Sometimes when the main site goes down, the lite version still allows you to close your position.

I have a laptop with a broadband dongle, I also have my iPhone and an iPad which can connect to a VPS on which Bet Angel is running. If I have a power failure I switch locations. If the other location also has a power failure, I have an power invertor in the car which means I can worth from there instead. I haven't had a power failure in the car just yet!
