Fergie rates this as the biggest derby of his career...:-

This should be a cracker...

The missus will have to watch Coronation Street and Emmerdale on the telly upstairs that night - that's for sure! :)

Some stats: -

Top Level

Man City are currently ranked 1st for their league form at home this season. They have won 94% of home games this season, drew 6% and lost no games. They are currently unbeaten at home. Man Utd are currently ranked 2nd for their league form away this season. They have won 78% of away games, drew 11% and lost 11% of games.

Number of goals scored

Man City have scored an average of 3.00 goals per home game and have failed to score on 4% of occasions. They have score in every home match this season. Man Utd have scored an average of 2.12 goals per away game and have failed to score on 6% of occasions. Man City have conceded an average of 0.59 goals per game at home and have kept a clean sheet on 59% of occasions. When playing away Man Utd have conceded an average of 0.76 goals per game and have kept a clean sheet on 28% of occasions.

On average Man City score a total of +2.41 more goals than their opponents at home and each match has contained an average of 3.59 goals. On average Man Utd score a total of +1.35 more goals than their opponents when playing away and each match has contained an average of 2.88 goals.

Over / Unders

Man City – When playing at home Under 2.5 goals has occurred 18% of the time. Over 2.5 goals has occurred 82% of the time.

Man Utd – When playing away, Under 2.5 goals has occurred 47% of the time. Over 2.5 goals has occurred 53% of the time.

What the market is saying

The market is currently forecasting 3.00 goals in this match with a slight edge to Man City of 0.34 goals. The market is telling us these are evenly matched teams with a bias to the home team, no surprise there! But it is also saying there will be an above average number of goals. Traditonally local derbies are tight affairs and low scoring matches so draws are a fairly common occurrence.

When we dug through our archives, a large number of similar matches game in consistently under 3 goals which suggest the price on the draw should be a bit shorter. There appears to be a bias in the market based on the prior high scoring rates of both teams. You would think they would cancel each other out to some extent.

However, a lot depends on when that critical first goal is scored. Man Utd will not want to lose this match and Man City have to win. An early goal will give significant incentive for further goals. You sense that United will be trying not to conceded as a first priority and to frustrate City at the start of the match.

i've been trying to think about how the start of the match might play out.
ManU don't need to win and will be desperate not to concede early. ManC need to win but won't want to go too gung ho because they won't want to blow their chance early and have an Italian manager who might revert to type.

so i predict that, after a frantic first few mins, we'll have a goalless first half hour at least.

4-4 at h/t it is then!

I tend to agree with superfrank, I think it could be a cagey affair early doors.

Whenever Mancini has been involved in crucial contests, he has been very cautious. I expect tonight to be no different, especially after United led 3-0 at HT when they played here in January. He'll want to avoid United getting the upper hand, so will almost certainly keep it tight early on

I have to agree, normally city are very cautious in these games. Looks like they've put quite an attacking line up out but whether they'll actually go for it or not I doubt.

I can see it ending 0-0 and Fergie celebrating on the pitch at the end

despite the home record I think 2,08 are too short for Man City to win. As Euler posted Man utd is 1st on away points. Man City scored 4 goals within 15 minutes into the game at home. Man utd score 6 goals within 15 minutes into the game away. I have managed to get matched @ 2,08 ( lay) hopefully I can close before the off at least 5 ticks. If not despite a good record scoring within 15 minutes I will keep it in play for 10-15 minutes..
Good luck all and enjoy the spectacle of the game...

I can watch most of in PLAY games...I'd say 90% of them...
I don't think Man utd can hold the second half playing like this unless Man city burn all the energy resources...

I could not agree more...I was expecting to close within 10-15 minutes in play but I closed @ 3,29 minutes. I was expeting Man city goal early in the second half but the goal came one minute before half time...Whatever happens from now on is just a cracking football game to watch... :D :D

I know they always say perfect to score before half time but wouldn't it give the opposition manager the perfect chance to change things? I'd have thought it would have been perfect to score a minute AFTER half time as its more likely to render the enemy managers team talk useless.

Fergie needs to get the hairdryer out. I'd be surprised if City didnt sit back more and start getting nervous. Utd need to show more though, of course
