Hi

I am experimenting at the moment placing bets in practice mode....does it replicate the live scenario exactly? e.g. if I get matched at a certain price and stake amount in practice does that mean the same would have occurred if I'd have traded live?

Thanks

Practice mode is very useful for learning how price movements on one runner affects the others, watching how money is matched etc....

Just be aware that when you place a bet in practice mode the order is fired into the market instantaneously where as in live mode there is a fraction of a seconds delay..

This doesnt sound like much but it can make the world of difference between scratching a trade for no loss and losing a few ticks or worse.

It can be very realistic provided you use sensible stakes. Sadly too many people I have seen using it try and mask their mistakes by throwing in huge orders that would be unrealistic in a real market.

If you stick with sensible amounts it can really help you monitor the movements as RafterP said. The other thing to remember is the matching is performed locally on your machine so it can occasionally be slightly different to real trades. That is a small thing though and nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the feedback. @jollygreen so when you say that you've seen huge orders placed in practice mode that are inconceivable in the real market, does that mean they get matched in practice but not live?

Think of practice mode a bit like doing a penalty shoot out against a blindfolded goal keeper. It's pretty real except the goal keeper can't react to your shot.

In practice mode you could use £1000 stakes and the market will not react to them. If you try that in a live market it wouldn't work the same way for sure.
