I applied to go on this but didn't make the 1st cut unfortunately. I thought I may as well apply as if I did get on it meant worst case if was a 1 in 8 chance of winning £100,000 which aren't bad odds!
I thought the number of people who would have been in a position to take part and would be suitable would have been small as you had to basically be in a position where by you could drop everything and devote all your time to it. From memory you found out if you made the 1st cut on either the Monday or Tuesday, then had to attend an interview on either the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and then start your training on the Monday after the week. Then be available for 6 weeks from that point.
So I find it a bit odd that most of the people who have been selected are already in jobs
I wasn't sure when the first program was being aired so just checked and it is Tuesday coming.
Here is where you can find a bit of info about the people:

I clicked on the trailer and then via YouTube came across this US series:
Wall Street Warriors:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_Street_Warriors
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPcqetJu ... re=related
It seems the third series was as yet not aired, shame as it was during the 2008 crisis but the TV channel went off air
Watched the first episode whilst having my lunch and although it is obviously being 'sexed up' for the camera reality tv style it was still watchable.
Did no one else bother applying for the City Index thing? With the £100,000 prize it was a bit of a no brainer imo

Yeah I applied, but also didnt get past the 1st cut.
Shame as its something I'd have loved to have done.
Remember watching a series about something similar a few years back where they took people from all walks of life and trained them and put them in their own trading room.
It was pretty interesting but I cant remember what channel or even what it was called.
Not much use really

I've been contacted by a couple of researchers in the past to appear on shows, but I've never felt comfortable during the interview stage. You get this feeling you are being exploited and the contracts they ask you to sign often don't make comfortable reading either. I guess that's the way the entertainment / promotion business works.
Will be interesting to keep an eye on this.

I clicked on the link as soon as Peter posted it....Irish resident, so I can't apply
So many big accounting/finance companies in Ireland, in the depths of a recession frequently advertise/create xyz new jobs. I would love if any of them had the balls to put their financing new blood behind a similar idea.
Theoretically, at the best, it would show how a good chance can give a person who knows what they're doing a great experience and be an important part of a major company in the state, create opportunities for businesses, expand company, create jobs etc.
At the 2nd worst, you get someone completely out of their depth, no follow up shows, written off into history.
At the very worst, someone who has a good idea of trading, knows the in's and out's, basic principles, happens to win, gets some good training, then starts asking questions. When they put 2+2 together with experience and knowledge......That would be some good whistle-blowing tv!

it's a bit pants, and a complete rip-off of The Apprentice, but watched them nonetheless.

Great fun, to succeed all you need to do is get a mockney accent and not wear a tie, "simples"

very hard for anyone to make money day trading financials with spread betting transaction costs. a 1pt spread on the FTSE doesn't sound much but its impact on P+L would be very significant.Euler wrote:I would love to go head to head on this with the same bank but using sports trading. It would be a real eye opener!
I'm surprised they thought that guy had overtraded with 69 trades in a week.
