This is the continuation of the thread £25 a day – a beginner’s journey..viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6912 ..moved here as I felt it was more appropriate.

Can a noob turn over a coin laying horses?

Follow along if you want.. let’s see how long my bank lasts.. (not very long according to the last thread)

Laying to £100 stakes (I'm using less):

Profit in 20 days over £1000

If you are doing this to some form of strategy, then good luck to you. If you're still going well into the new year, then maybe you could post your selections shortly after you lay them yourself. ;)

I do have a couple of items of advice:

Have you withdrawn your initial investment? Doing this ensures that should your venture fail, you won't be left out of pocket. You have more than enough capital to prove to yourself whether you have a winning system or not.

If you do have a winning system, then I recommend that you lower your stake size. Even with a winning system, a run of bad luck will blow your bank with such high (in proportion to your capital) stake sizes, leaving you thinking that it was a useless system; whereas the contrary may in fact be true. If you currently have £1,096 profit, then why not try for a backer's stake of £25, increasing your bankroll by about 2% for each successful selection? A day where 3 out of 3 favourites come in would still leave you with a healthy (ish) bank.

Of course, this is just advice, and it's ultimately your decision as to how you play this game. :)

Definitely, definitely not. Every man and his dog tries to lay. Any possible strategy you could have thought of has been tried many times over by others.

Also, please only post bets you actually made, with stakes you actually used, otherwise the results list is simply fiction.

... Also, if you're happy to, feel free to post the name of the horse you opposed. Makes reading it a little less like looking at a spreadsheet full of figures. ;)

..beettteeerrr! Good feedback Ethanol.

My stakes are less than £100 - £100 is my aim (but for simplicity and to keep me keen I will continue to use £100 - actual bets are £10).

Well all I will add is good luck! I genuinely hope you continue to improve your selection process and make money. If the results start to decline then focus harder on what you may have missed in your selection process.

I know it isn't trading in the pure sense but this quote is one I use quite often "there are more ways than one to skin a cat, so are there more ways than one of digging for money"

Good Luck with the laying :D

but perhaps it would be better if you posted your selections as well as the odds, otherwise it will just be a list of numbers with not much meaning.

Yep and then we can test them to Betfair s.p and see if you are winning by getting value ie under s.p or from superior horsey knowledge / system :)

That's clearly not going to happen as this is a back tested system. I've seen many of these in the past. As soon as you get the names of the horses before the races they start winning (as in losing bets).

hi,

First outright lay I took for a while, today I layed 'Parsip Pete' at 3.14 for 200 in the last at Haydock. It won and I lost 400.

A good remainder of why I shouldn't punt and neither should any newbie.

Yeah, this results list is fiction. He's not actually placing those bets at those stakes.

Why did you lay it?
