Nice video and not as crass as the headline makes out.

'Information arbitrage' investment
I thought this guy was going to be up his own backside, but he seemed OK
A good lesson though, even on sport trading. Don't trade everything, or every single market. Choose your markets and picks wisely, have a sensible staking plan and have a definite entry & exit strategy

Kickstarter is the big startup investment thing he talked about http://www.kickstarter.com/
crowdcube is a UK version but much smaller http://www.crowdcube.com/

I bet you could use this technique when trading reality shows (Celebrity, Come dancing, big brother etc) by sounding out the views of your missus and her friends..they seem to quickly form views about who they like and who they dont? (I'm crap at it by he way!, not a great judge of character!)LeTiss 4pm wrote:I thought this guy was going to be up his own backside, but he seemed OK

This guy is clever but isn't this just value investing is another guise? Its hardly a spangly new form of investment. My only issue is that he must be taking on a hell of a lot of risk, those average returns are insane but what if a big deal (as in his hunger games example) falls through?
He's done very well for himself so far no doubt and his advice on the whole seems sound,
But doesn't this just sum up the problems with this business,
At the end of the day he's made a handful of investments each time using a large %
of his funds and he’s hit the jackpot,
But whether that’s actually skill or just luck it's not really clear at this stage.
But he’s appointed a expert and is qualified to give advice on tv regardless it seems.
Imagine appointing some of the idiots on the Betfair forum as experts.
You know the ones that have laid 100 consecutive 100-1 horses going all in and think they’ve found the Holy Grail.
To me at this stage there is not much difference between the two, only time will tell.
