Iain Duncan-Smith is a class A pillock. This diagram sums up his workfare programme: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =1&theater

I wouldn't mind so much if he actually charged the likes of Poundland for the free labour his scheme provides, but he doesn't. Basically, he is giving a gift from the taxpayers to corporations, which might actually result in said corporations having fewer people on their payrolls, thereby increasing unemployment!

I'm all for a 'something for something' culture, but if you are going to force the unemployed to work for free then shouldn't they be benefiting the community (by taking part in local environmental initiatives, for example) rather than handed over FOC to big business as slaves?!?

Just thought I'd get that off my chest!

jeff,

it seems (to me) you have had a slight change in attitude to this "workfare" scam.

that's real good to hear (or should it be read).

Hi Tony

If I thought the taxpayer was making a profit on it, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But there is something deeply wrong about the state forcing someone to work free of charge as a favour to corporations, and expecting literally nothing in return. It's perverse for people to be doing work FOC for Poundland when they could be helping out in their local NHS hospital or volunteering in a charity shop...

It's a shame that Mister Man is no longer in the forum. He and I might have finally found something we agree on!
