I'm trying to develop an automated in-play strategy for horse racing. Obvious associated problems are the relatively short time period involved and the fast moving nature of events. Is it possible to test an automated Excel spreadsheet against historical in-play data. I thought perhaps Fracsoft might offer something like this, but on looking at the site I don't think so. I suppose an alternative would be to record events as they happened on the screen, so that I could at least replay them and study in more detail what had happened. Can anyone recommend software to do this?

Record the data with Bet Angel then you can not only analyse it but act on it as well. Have a nose in the spreadsheet section and you will find a range of spreadsheets that should be able to help you.

The betfair data can be useful for inplay:
http://data.betfair.com

They show the first & last time a price was matched.

The Betfair data is not as detailled as Francsoft or recording using Betangel. However, it is relativily quick to analysis data for a large number of races.
