I've been putting it down to less liquidity as races are off every 5 minutes or so in that hour and perhaps different types of exchange customers etc, but it would be good to hear other people's thoughts on this!

Does anybody else notice a distinct difference in the markets between around 5-6pm? My trading seems to drop off in this hour or so and then gets back to normal from then on..

I've noticed the drop in liquidity when races are 5 mins apart (usually the transition period between afternoon and evening).
Today for instance, all early races at Muss hit about 900k pre-off and were preceded by flats, but the last race was preceded by a jumps which deprived it of time & normal volume (from memory I think there was less than a few secs to go before the previous race finished and only about 350k traded before post-time).
On the other hand, I noticed something weird in one of the early evening races yesterday which had about 15 to 20 mins after the previous race. The price pattern on BF graph was a bit erratic with no discernible trend or range.
I'm still on the learning curve so makes very little difference to my trading performance, though I'm sure experienced/successful traders will feel the difference in their trading performance.

I've only been trading a few months but I get the feeling the learning curve will never stop. The liquidity does drop off substantially though, and I put my hands up and say, I have not yet figured out what to do with these markets beyond waiting for money!
