Hi there Bet Angellers :D

I am new to bet angel and about to begin a month's trial, and was hoping to get some help with a question before I do.

I want to use a progressive staking system to back horses at certain courses.

Is this possible with the BetAngel software, specifically with the excel automation?

This is the type of query I am looking to run using betangel:

Back the SP favourite if:
the course is Lingfield
the favourite has odds of 4.5 or under

But crucially, as it is a progressive staking system, I need my stake to be defined by the profit / loss of the previous race.

To be more specific here are two examples (and apologies to most of you who I am sure are more than aware of how a progressive staking system works!)

Target Profit - £10 per race

Scenario 1 - Win
Race 1:
Target Profit = £10
Horse backed @ 2.0
Result - Win
Profit/Loss = £10 (Minus betfair comms of course)

In this instance the target profit for Race 2 would be £10 as I have no losses to cover

Scenario 2 - Lose
Race 1
Target profit = £10
Horse Backed @ 2.0
Result - Lose
Profit/Loss = -£10

Race 2 - (Placing bet to cover a loss and generate a profit)
Target Profit = £20 (£10 to cover race 1 Loss + £10 Target Profit for Race 2)
Horse Backed @ 2.0
Result - Win
Profit/Loss = £20 (minus BF comms)

This is for example only to demonstrate what I am hoping to do with the software.

The key feature is to automate the process.

Is it possible that I can set this up with BetAngel and leave it running whilst I am away from the computer?

Please let me know your thoughts!
Thanks all
J

I'm sure you could do something with Excel along these lines.

However, there are a couple of things to take into account.

- Regarding your progressive staking system I'll leave that up to some of the regular posters on here to comment on that
- Betfair does not supply a results service so you would need to ascertain via other methods the outcome of an event. Perhaps by monitoring the account balance (but then if the event is delayed or there is some kind of inquiry then this may affect the result and delay the account balance being updated. Which would in turn affect how you stake the following race).
- The SP favourite is not known until the SP is declared. Which is after the start of an event.

Progressive staking systems are generally referred to by the M-word on trading forums. A good mathematical analysis can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale ... ng_system)

Bet Angel is a trading tool.

It's not a software package designed for people to do their bollocks ASAP, with ludicrous gambling strategies based around chasing losers

I'm glad you've said hello with your first post, no doubt your second post will be to say goodbye

I'm not being harsh jonargo, but somebody needs to tell you now.....your system will bankrupt you!

Don't hold back Le Tiss say what you really feel ;) Le Tiss is right though. I'm sure you're aware that alot of the horses that get backed in as favorites are based on hype and are not good value for money.

A large percentage of the time you'll be backing a 3/1 that really only has an 8/1 or more chance of winning the race. So to set up automation to blindly back the favourites is a very bad idea.

hi guys,

thanks for all the feedback - much appreciated all round.

I'll give this a whirl on paper first to see how I get on.

Will update here if i come across any stumbling blocks with the automation...

cheers
