Hey guys,

What hobbies do you have except for betting and watching sports? ;)

Mine would be traveling (fell in love with Portugal since I spent two weeks in Lisbon three years ago), going out and playing with my dog and also adding new pieces to my ever growing collection of watches. I inherited dozens of watches from my grandpa when I was younger and have held the collection in good honor ever since. My highlight is a Rolex which I found on this site for a really good price.

What about you?

When I'm not trading sport I tend to be playing it. I have a foot injury at the moment so I am doing a lot of cyclying at the moment and just getting back into golf. During bad weather in the winter I'll tend to try and play the piano, very relaxing, very different and good eye hand co-ordination.

Being able to play the piano has always been a dream of mine I could never afford a good piano though, and never took lessons, so I can 't play at all. Also, a piano requires a lot of space, and until I can afford to move to a bigger flat there's no way for me to own one.

This is how I got interested in music: -

Learnt to play oh when the saints, greensleeves, happy birthday etc on it. But I didn't come from a family that exactly encouraged my interest in music so it sort of died there. For years I thought the way to play music was with numbers! 1345, 1345, 1345, 3132 is the opening sequence to oh when the saints. I still remember.

Bought a full size electronic keyboard a few years ago and found playing it very therapeutic so eventually upgraded to the proper thing, a big jump I leant.

I'm not classically trained, but may do that when I have some more time, but I'm quite good at remembering long sequences of keystrokes, so can bang out a few tunes. I sort of learnt in reverse, learn the tune, see the sequence of chords and the melody and that helped me understand music a bit better.

It's about the only thing I can do that takes my mind of everything else and that's the main reason I enjoy doing it.

What a funny way to develop an interest in music :)

I once tried to play the guitar but failed miserably. I just couldn't remember how to play the chords and since I didn't see myself getting better soon, I gave up... maybe I should give it another try but somehow I feel like this opportunity is missed.

I've had a bit of a switcheroo this year, where music was the hobby and now it takes over trading half the time, really slows down the learning curve.

Never too late to learn Hermes, get a cheap guitar for £50 and learn a few chords- muscle memory will do the rest if you keep at it :) As Peter says, fewer things more relaxing or refreshing as playing out a tune, takes you to a different place!

I guess my general problem with learning how to play an instrument is that I need to see results quickly. If I don't feel like I am making progress I lose patience. I know you are right though, maybe I should just take it easy and play for the fun of it, not aiming to get better but play for the sake of playing.

Cheers, guys!

I like this idea - I do a good bit of cycling on an indoor Watt Bike and use my phone for music or watching tv whilst on it but mounting it on the bike is always a pain. This looks like a great solution.

I also like all these crowd source funding ideas you see these days - making things possible that would years ago never have been possible. I see this one has achieved $120,000 of it required $12,000!

Can you play this Peter? Not a clue if it is a simple piece or complicated:

Really like listening to her album while working - great talent for 17yrs old. Also really like to listen to Scala & Kolacny Brothers while working - strangely I heard them first on of all things Hollyoaks  with this song during a murder scene:

They have some really good albums on Spotify. Do you upload any of your playing to Youtube Peter?

I'm pretty basic in the scheme of things, but as I work more time into my life again I hope to get quite a bit better.

I quite like doing this as well, Thruxton is only 1/2 hour from me, so headed over there first thing this morning.

I've done the Jonathan Palmer day a couple of times with customers where we got to drive some of those types of cars. Awesome day!

We had a go in a single seater at the end and what surprised me the most was how little room you had to move your arms and how small the steering wheel was. It was like driving with a small side plate!
It makes you realise how skilful the F1 drivers are

My fav was the caterham sevens. Not the fastest but great fun to drive!!

It's a shame the F1 sponsors don't get a few lessons off their drivers.

He will be free soon.

My hobbies are golf, bf and work. Actually living in Asia, work becomes your biggest hobbie. Bit sad, but I'd imagine it's the same for a lot of big traders.
