Hi guys. I did not feel like trading today much so I thought about improving my record keeping abilities.

I want to see how I trade and be able to review my steps as well as being able to train even thought I do not have time to be sitting in front of the computer. What I did is fairly simple and allows me do just this and keep records of my trading for months.

More on my blog (basically BA Guardian + Automated screen capturing)

What do you think of this setup? Obviously its quite useless for scalping markets but I can see value in trying to predict long term swings or for reviewing your trading.

I use a BA multiple spreadsheet that collects data. From this collected data it displays graphs (both Market overview chart, and individual runner chart), stats (trades, wins, loses, strike rate, Turnover, Return on Turnover, P/L, Volatility, Range) in a Dashboard sheet. This is all vital stats/info to any serious trader.

Information about the day's market is stored in one spreadsheet per day. I've been archiving these daily spreadsheets (which evolved over time) for about a year and half now.

My main/primary note taking tool is Microsoft OneNote. Not many people realize it's true potential, and even fewer people use it. I think it's the greatest product (other than Excel) ever created by Microsoft since DOS.

In my OneNote notebook I keep:
  • - Daily notes on trading (with link attachment to the daily BA multiple spreadsheet)
    - Snippets of advice & feedback offered to me on this forum by prominent traders
    - Links to good videos (Euler's videos on BA TV, Mugsgame videos)
    - Links to informative blog articles (from Euler, Adam Heathcote, and Mugsgame)
    - A collection of Pics from 'Betfair Chart of the Day' thread to find recurring patterns in events, race types, and courses
    - Strategies & Ideas
    - To Do's & Alerts (linked to Outlook calendar & Google calendar)
I have other Notebooks within the same file that store similar info on Investing side of things too.

Everything I need is neatly filed in one place, comprehensive, up to date, and quickly accessible.

That's my record keeping setup in a nutshell.

Haha, I use OneNote all the time, but I'm almost embarrassed to tell people, as nobody I know has ever used it!

I agree Switesh, if everybody spent 1 hour investigating OneNote capabilities, they'd use it all the time
