Another example of an terribly run football club!

How can a club the size of Bolton rack up debts of £163M?

Phil Gartside says it's the impact of relegation - that's bollocks, that shows just how deluded the world of football is. They have failed to make a profit for 11 years, showing that football simply fails to understand the basics of running a successful business.
Having PL revenues for 11 years, and failing to clear a profit once is just appalling financial mismanagement

Something dodge been going on I recon. We haven't made any huge bank breaking transfers ever and with a couple of exceptions such as JJ a few years back the salaries paid were never crazy.

One word, wages!

Clubs mortgage the future for the hope of buying success but so is every other club and somebody has to lose.

My dad took me to burden park when I was about five, my first game.
I remember the terraces, pies at half time and sitting on the barriers.
The crowd was full of flat caps, half shaven and a fag hanging out the mouth (and that was just the women! :D )

'reflects our debt-based, brain-dead society.

plenty of once great clubs will disappear forever because of the deluded people running them.

I'm pleased to see it looks like terraces may make a comeback.

I appreciate that but I don't believe they paid that high except with the exception of a couple of biggish names they brought in 10 years+ ago. I think the top earners were 30k in the premiership, which taking into consideration the 50 mil I think they were getting from tv a year during the premier league years would be difficult to spend on wages of the squads we had. Last year loosing 50 mil paying the likes of Zat knight just doesn't add up considering they would have received a 20 mil parachute payment for that season. I know it probably is that but just feels like a lot to lose on salaries with some of the donkies playing now.

Burnden what a place. I guess we will have to relive them days and sell off half of the away end and build a supermarket again!

Its always surprised me after so many high profile clubs living beyond their means, Why Arsenal have had so much negative publicity for treading a more prudent path while they've had a stadium to pay for.

yeah that's good news.

Bolton's old place (Burnden Park) was a proper English ground with a great atmosphere...
