The bookmakers put Italy slightly favorite for this game and slightly favorite for the group winner. I think the odds of the group winner are not telling the true about the realistics shot both teams have to qualify. In my opinion Uruguay is the strongest of all 4 teams in the group. My doubts are not if Uruguay, England or Italy qualify, my real doubts are who of the two ( England and Italy) will not qualify.
I think the answear will come straight on the 1st game..Who loses here is in a big, massive trouble to qualify. Ofc I would be very happy if proved wrong.

I am checking this game on all its aspects I have just spotted one difference between England and Italy, hard to tell if that differences are positive or negative ,respectively, for each team...here below the graph!

It's a really difficult game to call - both teams were pretty poor in their final warm up match

I think it's fair to say we've seen stronger Italian and English teams in previous World Cups, so the formguide is somewhat sketchy

Italy probably deserve to be marginal favourites, but England do have potential match winners

I don't understand why Uruguay is not favorite. If Uruguay play as usuall they will win all 3 games by 1-0. They are very solid and hard to beat. Ofc for this time I really hope I am wrong so England and Italy will qualify..

Im going to put it out there, Look at Italy's record since 2010 they are not the team they once were. England can beat anyone on their day but at the min we are slack at the back.

I fully expect England to beat Italy 1-0 , 2-0 or 2-1 and also qualify from the group.

I don't believe friendlies give a true reflection of the a teams potential.

COME ON ENGLERLAND!!!!

If ever a game has draw written all over it before a ball has been kicked it is this one, two teams scared to lose because this will mean there as good as going home after one game, its the Uruguary games that are the most important for these two teams and to a lesser extent the Costa Rica one.

I can see England not losing a game but still going home early(I'm sure we've done that before in the not to distant past at a major tournement.) If England do anything here it will be because of the players not the unfit for purpose manager.

And fwiw I don't rate Hodgson at all, he picks players that have no business playing for England just because there represented by his agent mates, which drives up the players market price(Jack Butland , Martin Kelly anyone?), I wonder if he gets a cut???

I also agree.

A good defence against a team that couldn't' score in a brothel.

Just debating where I should be to watch the match.

Like alot of folks a draw looks a fair result... But England do have the potential to wins this opener, and I hope that Hodgeson plays the young guns and gets the result. Engalnd look suspect at the back, attach may in this case be the best form of defence..

You're not suggesting the options are 'home' or 'a brothel' are you? ;)

Rooney has a good record in brothels.

They played much better than most expected, just couldn't finish and looked tired towards the end.

We have one major problem with England - there's a player in the team who gets selected on reputation rather than form.......Rooney!

When he was 16 and burst on the scene at Everton, he wasn't your average teenager - he was a bloke, he had the body of a man! For next 8 years, for Everton and primarily United, he was brilliant, but he's not that player anymore - it's almost as if his peak years have come and gone

His only saving grace was that cross, but the miss sort of cancelled that out
