imo big moves are all about the real world, horses and punters. Traders are just the seagulls on dump fighting over the most (or least) popular morsels.

I did a little table once with various scenarios, and the pros and cons of a trainer being either truthful or lying, based on the effect on reputation, price moves they do or don't want, what the owner might want to hear etc etc. Don't bother doing it, it just made my head spin! ...Conclusion: Untrustworthy at best.

I know it's going back a little, but can anyone explain that ridiculous drift from 5.0 to 40.0 on Vikivaka, and it nearly won the race!

Tom Morley owned horse which probably explains its initial price .. clearly not fancied by connections , but after the race they were highly delighted with the fillies run. often horses are priced up on who trains or owns them , rather than beng priced on what they have achieved or their perceived chance in a race. Sometimes even other movements in a market don't negate those influences

After that post, I actually made four consecutive profitable trades. So, I'm slightly ahead for the day.

Fanshawe newcomers don't tend to win but don't tend to get backed either.

Not the greatest strike rate first time out .. but if you drill into his stats he does pretty well in certain areas ..

E.g since 2012 has had 3 horses aged 4 or over making their racecourse debut and two have won ... similarly he has a much better record with fillies then colts making their racecourse debut.

Some trainers who appear to have poor overall records with debutants ... actually have outstanding records at certain courses , certain types/ grade of race , over certain distances , when head gear applied etc . And also crucially certain times of the year.

But most of us just don't have the time to dig deep enough, and tend to focus and generalise on overall figures etc

This is what I don't understand about you guys that know the horses, in a sport with so many variables, how does 4 horses in 5 years make any sort of meaningful sample ?
